Scope and content
While president of the Treasury Board, Carney initiated the Task Force on Barriers to Women in the Public Service. Taskforce members conducted an extensive study of women’s professional experiences. Taskforce personnel, including Carney herself, conducted numerous interviews. This series contains transcripts of those interviews, including a transcript of an interview with Governor-General Jean Sauve conducted by Carney. In addition, the series contains correspondence, articles, books, speeches, conference materials, newspaper clippings, minutes, and photographs, all generated in the course of task force activities. The series also includes draft chapters of the final task force report and the published four-volume report Beneath the Veneer. Many of the records were received in binders. These records have been transferred to folders with the original order maintained. Some of this material may be duplicated at the National Archives. The original transcripts of the interviews may also be located at the National Archives.
