File contains correspondence, reports, and ephemera produced or received by Local 1's Working Conditions Committee. Topics include fluorescent lighting, the Workers' Compensation Board manual, grievance procedure, and first aid kit maintenance.

Working conditions

File contains material relating to working conditions at UBC. Records include "Second draft of amendments to Industrial Health & Safety Regulations (First Aid Section)" from the Worker's Compensation Board of British Columbia (dated September 25, 1978), documents produced by Local 1's Working Conditions Committee, correspondence regarding working conditions, an inspection report, a report regarding the detrimental effects of fluorescent lighting, and a newspaper clipping regarding stretching exercises for office workers.

File also contains a pamphlet from the UBC Alumni Association's Wesbrook Society (possibly from 1982), and copies of Local 1's grievance form.

[Universities and Colleges Conference Correspondence]

File contains Association of University and College Employees correspondence, dated October 17, 1977 to June 24, 1977. Strike pay

Special Convention on Affiliation, April 1980

File contains material from the April 1980 AUCE Provincial Special Convention on Affiliation. Material includes the Affiliation Bulletin 2 (prepared by Local 1's Affiliation Committee and Provincial staff), an information package about various affiliation options, an Affiliation Update from the Provincial Executive dated April 2nd 1980, and an edition of the AUCE Affiliation Inquiry (vol.1, no.4) dated January 9, 1980.

File contains newsletters from the AUCE Provincial, and a financial statement.

AUCE Affiliation Bulletin (January 22, 1981) includes referendum results on whether AUCE members wish to affiliate with the Canadian Labour Council.

AUCE Provincial Dispatch no. 13 (November 27, 1980) includes by-election results, and the results of a special assessment which passed to provide financial assistance to Local 1.

AUCE Provincial News: Special Issue on Affiliation (December 1980) includes discussion and opinion pieces on the advantages and disadvantages of various ways to affiliate with the CLC.

Provincial Executive minutes (2 of 2)

File contains meeting minutes dated August 16, 1980 to December 13, 1980. Topics discussed include office business and meeting structure, reports from Locals, correspondence, financial statements, loans, undertaking an AUCE history project, the convention and referendum, "Regina vs. Pappajohn" Supreme Court Decision, the affiliation question, protesting the Ku Klux Klan, grievances, strikes, committee reports, and per capita taxes. Outgoing correspondence

File contains outgoing correspondence and other material dated January 15, 1983 to December 7, 1983. Other records include press releases, fliers for upcoming events, ballots, reprinted AUCE newsletter articles, candidate statements, and membership meeting minutes. Outgoing

File contains copies of outgoing executive correspondence dated April 29, 1980 to December 18, 1980. Topics include strike notice, collective agreement interpretation, strike fund assessment deductions, strikebreakers, union representatives and representation, bonuses, cutbacks, affiliation, relationship with the Provincial, office relocation and administration, funding cuts of the AMS Women's Office, the University Detachment of the RCMP, cooperation with other unions, and membership dues. Recipients consist of UBC officials and employees.

Office log

File consists of the Union Organizer's handwritten office log, dated November 3rd, 1975 to November 17, 1976. The log documents the Organizer's duties and activities, including general administration and organization, phone calls, speaking to members, preparing reports, compiling arbitration cases, office renovation, peparing for membership meetings, writing newsletter articles, recordkeeping, and constructing an office manual.

File also contains correspondence, a Civil Engineering Department list, administrative instructions, reports written by the Organizer, meeting notes, committee membership lists and terms of reference, an executive membership list, and a library loan list.

File also contains "Strike Progress" material, documenting AUCE's strike activity and administration in December 1975. Records include activity logs, an official brief to UBC's Board of Governors, executive meeting minutes, a transcript of a meeting between AUCE and the BC Federation of Labour, and correspondence.

[Notebooks of provincial executive minutes]

File contains four notebooks of Melody Rudd, member of Executive Committee. Four handwritten exercise books (notebooks) containing notes on union activities in the form of phone numbers, addresses, to-do lists, lists of supplies, calculations, financial information, scheduling, drafts of correspondence, questions, information about the newsletter, and the activities of Locals 1-6. One of the notebooks appears to have been used for class or personal notes as it mostly contains psychology and mental health information with a section on union and strike activities at the end.

Miscellaneous AUCE files

File contains miscellaneous documents, such as the agenda for a Communications Committee meeting dated September 1974, correspondence, a petition from Local 3 for strike fund contributions, a a daycare petition from the Social Services' Employees Union of British Columbia, and a report of the Student Support Sub-Committee dated October 22, 1974.

Ministry of Labour working conditions

File contains records relating to inspection of working conditions in UBC buildings and facilities, dated March 31, 1980 to April 27, 1982. Records include "Report of the Library Processing Centre Environment Task Force Committee, March 1981", incoming and outgoing correspondence, interdepartmental memorandum, petitions, and list of workplace hazards. Topics of correspondence include investigations, complaints about working conditions, and compensation for workplace injury.

Masters

File contains master copies of form letters, and blank vacation entitlement schedules. Form letters include notice of severance, a description of AUCE and Local 1, a notice of reimbursement for lost wages, and a notice of overdue initiation fee.

File contains material from Local 6 (Simon Fraser University Teaching Support Staff Union) dated September 8, 1976 to August 10, 1982. Records include bound collective agreement (July 30, 1980 to April 30, 1982), news bulletins, incoming and outgoing correspondence, petition to join AUCE, report, instructions for union organizers, leaflets, sessional instructors job description, copy of affiliation contract, and arbitration award from the Labour Board of B.C.
