Administrative history

The Department of Animal Husbandry was established as part of the Faculty of Agriculture in 1917 and continued until superseded by the Department of Animal Science in the early 1950s. The department's function was "to afford education and training in all matters about livestock to all those living in the province and seeking and applying for such education."

Fonds consists of correspondence, inventories, budgets, articles, clippings, printed material, awards, ownership papers, photographs, and an album about the Department of Animal Husbandry administration and judging competitions. Fonds includes materials regarding the livestock breed by the department and the much-acclaimed cattle herds.

Most of the material came from the files of H.M. King who became department head in the early 1920s and continued in this capacity until 1952.
