The first Department of Creative Writing in Canada was established at the University of British Columbia in 1965. In 1966, Jake Zilber became the first head of the department.

Scope and content
Fonds consists of worksheets prepared by students in the Department of Creative Writing. Each worksheet is essentially a small magazine, with poems and short stories by students and notices of interest. The frequency of the worksheets varies, as does their size (between 10 and 40 pages). They are filed according to their issue numbers within each year.
