Scrapbook containing newspaper and serial journal clippings assembled by Dr. W. B. Chung pertaining to the Empress of Australia's service as a ship of the Canadian Pacific Railway Company's trans-Pacific steamship service and its service as a troopship during the second world war, including a few newspaper clippings related to the purchase of the ship, which had been the ship Tirpitz of the Hamburg-America Line, by the Canadian Pacific in 1921; a few newspaper clippings pertaining to the ship's first arrival in Victoria and Vancouver, British Columbia, in 1922; some newspaper clippings concerning the ship's presence at Yokohama when the earthquake occurred there in 1923, including articles regarding the rescue efforts made by the ship's crew and Captain Samuel Robinson's account of the event; a newspaper advertisement for the a world cruise on the Empress of Australia in 1928; some newspaper clippings regarding the use of the Empress of Australia to bring King George VI and Queen Elizabeth to Canada for the royal tour in 1939; a newspaper clipping regarding a report that the ship had been torpedoed during its service as a troopship during the second world war; and a newspaper clipping and a journal clipping regarding the last voyage of the ship in 1952.
