Peggy Thompson Film Research Collection

The collection is an assemblage of movie memorabilia (predominantly Noir and Western), 20cm x 25cm film-stills, 28 cm x 36 cm lobby cards, and ephemera amassed by Thompson as a part of her research for her books Hard-Boiled and Tall in the Saddle. Additionally, there are Science Fiction stills and posters, Spanish-language lobby cards, 36cm x 91cm insert posters, and miscellaneous stills from other 20th-century cinema.

[Provincial Bargaining Strategies conference records]

File contains materials relating to the Association of University and College Employees' Bargaining Strategies Conference, held February 5-7th, 1982, as well as several articles and copies of legislation. Topics discussed include collective agreements, negotiations, contract language, job evaluations, sexual harassment, wage increases, benefits, bargaining, information on court cases, the Capilano College Labour Studies Programme from Spring 1982, copies of the 1979 Labour Code, the Essential Services Disputes Act (1977), the Employment Standards Act (1980), an article by David C. Documents include statements and declarations by Spring regarding "Favourite;" insurance policy; vouchers for expenses incurred by "Favourite;" account and expense sheets, including list of improvements and repairs, provisions purchased, and wages earned; claim to Pelagic Sealing Commission; statement from captain Amos Ellis; and other documents.

Schooner "Henrietta" documents

File contains documents relating to the schooner "Henrietta." Documents include accounts and expense sheets, including an accounting of expenses to outfit the vessel, lists of improvements and repairs, and payments to crew; promissory notes / receipts for advances to the crew.

[News clippings 1975 strike]

File contains clippings and photocopies of news stories, dated April 21, 1975 to September 1975. Topics discussed include contracts, strike actions, suspensions, negotiations, and crossing picket lines. File also contains a letter from Students in the Faculty of Law supporting the AUCE strike, and an AUCE Local 1 (UBC) newsletter dated September 1975.

[Shop steward handbook and Travel Club newsletter]

File contains an AUCE/SORWUC shop steward handbook and AUCE travel club leaflets. Topics discussed in the handbook include rights and responsibilities of stewards, leaves from work, how to process grievances, arbitration, definitions, and a sample grievance form. Topics discussed in the newsletters include detailed information on tours and travel packages to Las Vegas, Mexico, Alaska, Europe, etc.

[Notebooks of provincial executive minutes]

File contains four notebooks of Melody Rudd, member of Executive Committee. Four handwritten exercise books (notebooks) containing notes on union activities in the form of phone numbers, addresses, to-do lists, lists of supplies, calculations, financial information, scheduling, drafts of correspondence, questions, information about the newsletter, and the activities of Locals 1-6. One of the notebooks appears to have been used for class or personal notes as it mostly contains psychology and mental health information with a section on union and strike activities at the end.

File contains meeting minutes dated January 8, 1982 to June 5, 1982. Topics discussed include reports from Locals, interactions with CUPE, executive elections, strikes, B.C. Topics discussed include administrative restructuring, dues restructuring, subsequent by-law amendments, and union income. File also contains correspondence and invoices regarding payments to AUCE Provincial, legal arbitration, employee benefits, office rental, pest control, and union dues. File also contains the following miscellaneous documents: an account log photocopy, agenda and minutes of membership meetings, financial statements, and Local 1 by-laws. Patricia Carney fonds

The fonds consists of correspondence, newspaper clippings, minutes, memoranda, personal notes, diaries, photographs, videos and an assortment of ephemera created or collected by Carney over her years in federal politics. The fond consists predominantly of materials reflecting Carney's political life. Records from her years in the Official Opposition (1980-1984) and in government (1984-1988) consist of parliamentary reports, minutes from Neighbourhood Nights and correspondence from constituents. The majority of materials reflect Carney's tenure as Minister of Energy, Mines and Resources (1984-1986), and Minister of International Trade (1986-1988). For dates during the evolution of both the Atlantic and Western Accords, these records include correspondence between Carney and provincial premiers, Prime Minister Brian Mulroney, and provincial Ministers of Energy. Records from the FTA include a copy of the Canada-U.S. Free Trade Agreement, correspondence with Simon Reisman, Finance Minister Michael Wilson, Mulroney, and other Cabinet Ministers. FTA materials also include correspondence and newspaper clippings from the tenth anniversary of the FTA. The records also include copious handwritten notes from Carney's participation on the Priorities and Planning Committee of the Cabinet. The fonds also includes records from State Visits of the Prince and Princess of Wales and American Vice-President George Herbert Walker Bush to Expo 86, as well as State Visits by President and Mrs. Reagan of the United States and President and Mrs. Mitterrand of France. The fonds also contains records documenting Carney's career as a Senator, including a series dedicated to the Task Force on Barriers to Women in the Public Service. Also, the records contain a series of Carney's School of Community and Regional Planning teaching materials as well as limited amounts from both her private life and her career as an economic journalist.
The 2011 accrual (Boxes 47-60) consists of correspondence, newspaper clippings, personal notes, reports, photographs, tapes and videos created collected by Carney during her time as a Senator. There is also further material regarding the reception of her autobiography and material from the operations of Gemini North.

File contains correspondence, news releases, reports, and other records dated June 26, 1984 to June 18 and 19, 1984. Topics discussed include Operation Solidarity and new labour legislation, per capita dues, the Solidarity Coalition, opposition to the government budget, rallies, an AMS (UBC Alma Mater Society) Special General Meeting, formation of a People's Commission for Policy Alternatives and their activities, employment proposals, trade union support actions including strikes and demonstrations, community programs, education, Expo 86, an Operation Solidarity bargaining conference and strategy discussion, the report of the public sector committee, the 1984 B.C. Conference on Human Rights, Local reports, recommendations from workshops, and communications reports. File also contains an information package from the Operation Solidarity 1st Annual General Meeting dated June 18 and 19, 1984, a copy of Operation Solidarity News Volume 1, Number 1, dated October 1984.

AUCE Special Convention on Affiliation

File contains the agenda and associated material of the April 1980 AUCE Provincial Special Convention on Affiliation. Proposed affiliations include BCGEU, CCU, CLC, CUPE, OTEU, SORWUC, and UFAWU. File also contains a voting card, an identification pin, draft ballots on amendment proposals and emergency resolutions, rules of order, the minutes of the 6th Annual AUCE Provincial Convention (June 1979), the April 1980 AUCE Affiliation Committee Report, and proposed resolutions.

File also contains reports and transcripts of meetings between the AUCE Provincial Affiliation Committee and proposed affiliations: BCGEU (December 4, 1979), CCU (February 8, 1980), CLC (September 14, 1979), CUPE (December 11, 1979), OTEU (January 17, 1980), SORWUC (March 10, 1980), and UFAWU (March 15, 1980).

Strike pay

File contains outgoing and incoming correspondence regarding 1978 strike pay, a list of cheques released to signatories, and statements of earnings. Correspondence includes memoranda to Local 1's union office authorizing release of strike pay cheques to third parties. File also includes Local 2's Annual Report 1978/9 Supplement. Lester Winston McLennan fonds

The papers consist of McLennan's reminiscences of his Fairview days and life as a Rhodes scholar. Also included is a series of correspondence dating from 1924 to 1976. The correspondence has been arranged in two ways. The general correspondence has been simply arranged chronologically while other letters and cards, which McLennan sent to the Archives as identified groups, have been maintained as such. The papers also include printed material from the Canadian Association of Rhodes Scholars and Balliol College.
