The IABC fonds reflects the community collecting practices that the IABC undertook to preserve the history of Icelanders in British Columbia. Fonds is arranged in eight subfonds that reflect the various community organizations from which the archives originally collected.

Fonds documents the IABC’s commitment to preserving the lived experiences of its Icelandic community and is arranged into seven series that correspond to the IABC’s activities: administration and operation; providing educational programs and collecting biographies as well as written and oral histories; collecting Icelandic music; compiling a collection of Icelandic newspapers and publications; holding exhibits and events; acquiring photographic collections; and lastly acquiring collections of textual records, ephemera, and artifacts from its community.

Fonds also contains eight other subfonds of textual, photographic, audiovisual, and ephemeral material of Vancouver-based Icelandic Societies including the Sólskin Society, the Icelandic Canadian Club of British Columbia (ICC of BC), the Icelandic National League of North America (INL of NA), Icelandic Care Home Höfn Society, the Scandinavian Cultural Society (SCS), Ströndin Internet Radio, the Danish Archives, and the Icelandic Lutheran Church.

Icelandic Canadian Club of British Columbia subfonds

Subfonds reflects the history and evolution of the Icelandic Canadian Club of British Columbia (ICC of BC) and its initiatives and activities in the greater Vancouver community. ICC of BC holds executive meetings, and celebrates Icelandic holidays and cultural traditions in its community. In addition to producing a monthly newsletter for its friends and members, the ICC of BC has implemented programs such as Icelandic language classes and a scholarship program to students of Icelandic descent. The ICC of BC, in conjunction with the Sólskin Society, managed the Icelandic Heritage Library. The subfonds consists predominantly of textual records, including administrative records and reports, financial records, correspondence, programming, newsletters and promotional material. Also included are photographs, published material, brochures, and ephemera.

Subfonds is divided into five series: administrative records, correspondence, events and programs, publications and library material, and photographs.

Icelandic Lutheran Church subfonds

Subfonds reflects the history and evolution of the Icelandic Lutheran Church and its activities in the greater Vancouver community. The Women’s Auxiliary of the Icelandic Lutheran Church was very involved in the functioning of the institution; therefore many of the records document the initiatives that the Women’s Auxiliary of the Church’s undertook during the Church’s history through the extensive minutes they kept of their monthly meetings. Records also document the church’s founding and development.

Subfonds is divided into three series: Administrative records, Publications, and Photographs.
