The fonds consists primarily of records relating to Philip Farmer’s work as chair of the 1977-1978 Regional District Review Committee of the British Columbia Legislature. Committee records include reports, maps, statues and by-laws, memoranda and correspondence, press clippings, annual requisitions and budgets, public hearing briefs or exhibits, and other textual records. There is also a copy of minutes from a meeting held by the Regional District Review Committee on December 15th, 1977.

The collection consists of correspondence, writings, sermons, manuscripts, subject files, scrapbooks, and other material which document the history of the Roman Catholic Church and its priests in British Columbia, Washington, and Oregon.

Fonds illustrates Brown’s time as a conscientious objector in British Columbia during WWII as well as various travels around BC prior to his time in the work camps. Brown had weekends free and received some leave; a fellow Objector lent him a camera, which he used to document his work areas and living quarters, as well as recreational travels and off-camp activities. He sent the film back to Vancouver for processing.

The fonds includes three photo albums produced by Brown, and three files of textual records. These are comprised of personal and government correspondence and a diary.

He was employed as a draftsman during the 1944 season on the Pine Pass Survey and an album contains 30 prints of activities during the survey. There is also an album relating to his activities in the Fraser Valley, 1934-1938, including photos of the flood of Jan., 1935.

This material was created and compiled in the course of research for the preparation, firstly, of a bibliography of Roderick Haig-Brown’s writings, and secondly, for a biography of Haig-Brown.
