Letter from Herbert H. Solway

Contains a handwritten note thanking Coupland for doing a "beautiful job of capturing Terry" Fox in his book, Terry. The brief and familiar nature of the note, and the lack of return address or envelope suggest that Coupland and Solway may have known each other.

Loonie as button

Contains a Canadian one dollar coin with two holes drilled into it, similar to button-holes.

Orca model

This item is a maquette version of the Digital Orca sculpture created by Coupland and installed at Jack Poole Plaza in 2010.

Paper Nests

In 2004, Coupland produced a series of paper nests, inspired by those that wasps create. To make these nests, Coupland hand-chewed pages from two of his novels. The series contains samples of this paper in various stages of being pulped.

Partially filled sketchbook

Contains a 5.5"x8.5" sketchbook, of which only about 15 pages have been filled, consisting mostly of calligraphy and other written material.

Resin test panel

Contains a collage on cardboard, sealed with resin. Certain aesthetic similarities may suggest this as a precursor to the "Penguins" created by Coupland in 2007 - see for example, "Stardust" (2007 - 28x35cm, paper, canvas, resin, and wood).
