File contains meeting minutes from the annual convention dated May 27-28, 1978. File also contains handwritten notes and blank sheets of paper as well as a transcript from the convention discussing potential affiliation with CUPE, contracts, wages, and student employment.

File contains convention materials dated May 27-28, 1978 to June 18-19, 1977. Topics discussed include executive reports, Local reports, strikes, bargaining, arbitration, affiliation, referenda, communications, committees, interactions with other unions (SORWUC), resolutions and amendments, staffing and wages, job descriptions, and revenue and finances. File also contains a small handwritten note, a convention agenda dated May 27-28, 1978, rules of order, financial statements dated March 31, 1978, resolutions and amendments, policies and procedures, convention meeting minutes dated June 18-19, 1977, and an annual report supplement from Local 2 (SFU) dated 1978/79 discussing strikes, maternity benefits, and communications.

Lester Winston McLennan fonds

The papers consist of McLennan's reminiscences of his Fairview days and life as a Rhodes scholar. Also included is a series of correspondence dating from 1924 to 1976. The correspondence has been arranged in two ways. The general correspondence has been simply arranged chronologically while other letters and cards, which McLennan sent to the Archives as identified groups, have been maintained as such. The papers also include printed material from the Canadian Association of Rhodes Scholars and Balliol College.

[Notebooks of provincial executive minutes]

File contains four notebooks of Melody Rudd, member of Executive Committee. Four handwritten exercise books (notebooks) containing notes on union activities in the form of phone numbers, addresses, to-do lists, lists of supplies, calculations, financial information, scheduling, drafts of correspondence, questions, information about the newsletter, and the activities of Locals 1-6. One of the notebooks appears to have been used for class or personal notes as it mostly contains psychology and mental health information with a section on union and strike activities at the end.

[Union Steward materials]

File contains union steward materials, dated October 4, 1977 to October 16, 1977. Topics discussed include duties and responsibilities, handling a grievance, dealing with supervisors, closing comments, Local grievance meetings, copies of minutes, tips for stewards, grievance information, rights of stewards, arbitration, information and agendas for stewards seminars, and brief histories of AUCE and SORWUC. File also contains a audio cassette entitled "The Steward".

[Local 1 Strike committee report and other material]

File contains a bound 1976-77 strike committee report and other records dated August 13, 1976 to March 7, 1977. Topics discussed include contract negotiations, "absence from work" issue, job evaluation and classification, publicity and communication, interactions with other unions and organizations, preparing for strike, summary of activities, and recommendations. File also contains several brochures, bulletins, flyers, newsletters, an issue of the Ubyssey (UBC student newspaper), and correspondence.

[News clippings 1976]

File contains news clippings of The Ubyssey, UBC reports, and University Endowment Lands (U.E.L.) special planning project, dated January 8, 1976 to January 13, 1976. Topics discussed include AUCE interactions with UBC, contracts, wage rollbacks, mediation, faculty crossing picket lines, and university endowment lands. Also included is the Engineer's Week undergraduate publication, The Red Rag, which the A.U.C.E. protested for its sexist content.

Miscellaneous AUCE files

File contains miscellaneous documents, such as the agenda for a Communications Committee meeting dated September 1974, correspondence, a petition from Local 3 for strike fund contributions, a a daycare petition from the Social Services' Employees Union of British Columbia, and a report of the Student Support Sub-Committee dated October 22, 1974.

[Local 1 Strike report and other material]

File contains strike reports and other records dated March 17, 1975 to April 14, 1975. Topics discussed include background leading up to the strike, setting up the strike such as picket locations and scheduling, finances, publicity, organization during the strike such as relations with other unions student support, an overview and summary of the 1975 strike, and recommendations. File also contains information on a CUPE strike, executive election candidate statements, a report on salary differences between men and women faculty members, correspondence, information on negotiations, contract proposals, picket bulletins, flyers, notes, and press releases.

[News clippings 1975 strike]

File contains clippings and photocopies of news stories, dated April 21, 1975 to September 1975. Topics discussed include contracts, strike actions, suspensions, negotiations, and crossing picket lines. File also contains a letter from Students in the Faculty of Law supporting the AUCE strike, and an AUCE Local 1 (UBC) newsletter dated September 1975.

File contains meeting minutes from the provincial convention and the special provincial policy convention dated June 21-22, 1975 to November 15-16, 1975. Topics discussed include education, communication, potential joint activities, building the provincial organization, AUCE's relationships with other unions, reports from Locals and committees, amendments and resolutions, the provincial Colleges Act, the importance of child care facilities, and protesting Bill C-73. File also contains a press release dated November 18, 1975.

File contains several publications, leaflets, and bulletins, dated 1973 to 1974, including undated document entitled "Forming A Union" and clipping of 'How to Form A Union" from White Collar, a publication of the Office and Professional Employees International Union (OTEU), AFL-CIO and CIC, Labour Code of British Columbia Act, A.U.C.E. informational leaflets, and Hospital Employee's Union Proposed Settlement. Topics discussed include forming a union, reasons to join the union, wages and negotiations. File contains a publication from the Office and Professional Employees International Union, a copy of the 1974 Labour Code of British Columbia, and several leaflets and reports.
