Written on back: "First monument to Captain Cook, erected by Admiral Palliser on his family estate, The Vache, Chalfont St. Giles, Bucks. Inscription covers four sides. Part of house seen at left. Photo taken by Frances Woodward, Provincial Archives, 19 June 1966."
