Buckley v. The Vancouver Coal Mining and Land Company Ltd. and Mark Bate, General Agent and Manager

File consists of four documents: summons; motion; (2) bill of complaint. Case involving a land dispute, Plaintiff wishing to pay the balance on his land purchase and to then be entitled to the land as owner so the Defendants will be unable to prosecute or commense action of legal proceedings against the Plaintiff for recovery of the land used for coal mining.

Plaintiff claims that the Defendant has in his possession and unlawfully detained 2 horses, 6 mules and one wagon belonging to the Plaintiff that the Defendant refuses to deliver on the grounds that he holds them as security for wages due from the Plaintiff to him

Kelly; Notice of Motion. Case is in regards to a patent for artificial stone. It appears that the Plaintiff paid the Defendants for the patent but did not receive the notes.

Bennett vs. Adams

Bill of Complaint; Affidavit of Adams; Affidavit of Bennett; Bill of Costs.

-The Plaintiff is a bridge builder, the Defendant is a carpenter and joiner. The Defendant was contracted with the government of B.C. to build a bridge across the Quesnel River and asked the Plaintiff, who agreed, to work with him for a share in the profits and a partnership agreement. The Plaintiff ended up doing all of the work. The Defendant was paid in full, but would not disclose his accounts of the costs of construction. The Plaintiff believes that if her were to see these accounts, a considerable balance would be owed to him by the Defendant.

Williams vs. Harrison

Promise to Pay; Writ of Summons; Copy of Judges notes; Exhibit "B" - Agreement; Affidavit of Service and Order; Affidavit of L.D. Williams; Bill of Costs.

-Plaintiff had recovered a judgment against the Defendant for $155.25 and costs on an unpaid promissory note for which he never received payment. the Defendant has since fled to the United States.

Strouss et al v. Turk

File consists of 4 documents: Writ of Summons; Judgement by Default; Plaintiff's Costs; Affidavit of Service. The Plaintiff's claim $1,477.12 for debt and $27.50 for costs for goods sold and delivered to the Defendant.

Jungerman v. Rudolph

File consists of 2 documents: Exhibit "A" (Indenture); Receipt from the Mutual Life Insurance Company (Exhibit "B"). The Plaintiff and the Defendant had been carrying on business under the firm of "Jungerman and Rudolph", watchmakers. Jungerman was in debt to various parties and had agreed that the co-partnership was to be dissolved and to be carried on by Rudolph.

In the Matter of R. Tomlinson

File consists of 3 documents: Order; Summons to the Defendant upon an Information or Complaint: Affidavit of R. Tomlinson. R. Tomlinson is housing a girl named Antangas against the will and consent of the girl's mother and guardian. Tomlinson is a missionary in charge of the Mission House belonging to the Church Missionary Society.

Jacob Sehl v. The Pacific Mail Steamship Company

File consists of thirteen documents: (4) notices in the British Columbia Gazette; correspondence discussing Sehl's claim for damages; invoice of damaged goods; correspondence outlining attorneys; invoice of goods shipped; correspondence regarding case; judgement for want of plea; plaintiff's bill of costs; writ to recover damages; declaration. Case regards Plaintiff paid for goods to be shipped and delivered in apparent good order. The goods were not delivered in apparent good order and condition to the Plaintiff but were damaged and deteriorated in value, many rendered of no use to the Plaintiff.

Alexander McWha v. Baker

File consists of one document: affidavit of G. Barker. Case regards Defendant claiming that he has not received any notice of these proceedings against his for the amount of $228.10 as charged by Plaintiff.

Lizzie A. Milsom v. Edward Albert Sharpe, falsely called Sharpe v. Sharpe

File consists of five documents: (2) affidavit of L.A. Milsom; (2) affidavit of Mrs. Woods; petition for a decree of nulling of marriage. Case regards the Plaintiff claiming that herself and the Defendant never lived together or shared a bed. The marriage was never consumated. Mr. Sharpe was frequently intoxicated and abusive towards the petitioner, Ms. Milsom, and she wishes that marriage be immediately annulled. See 18-43 for more.

Astrico v. The Corporation of Victoria

File consists of one document: correspondence from the department of the Ministry of Agriculture. Case regards solicitation to act as arbritrators in the case of a claim for compensation for expenses incurred in the putting of the steamer ship "Prince Alfred" into quarantine.

McWha vs. Baker

Summons; Judgment; Bill of Costs; Summons; Affidavit of A. McWha.

-Plaintiff had acquired a previous Order against the Defendant for $169.68 for which he never received any payment. The Defendant has made an application stating that he has satisfied the Plaintiff's demand which the Plaintiff claims is wholly untrue.

Stewart and Braden vs. Kelly and Taylor

Evidence of John Stewart.

-Stewart and Braden were a plumbing firm involved in the labor of St. Joseph's Hospital. Kelly and Taylor had done some work for the firm but there was dispute over their account and the hours that they were claiming and the Plaintiff's record of their hours.

Wilkes v. Webster

File consists of five documents: judgement by default; plaintiff's bill of costs; plaintiff's bill outlining debt; writ of service; affidavit of service. Case regards Plaintiff claiming $1,343.70 for debt owed to him by Defendant for balance of account due for goods bargained, sold and delivered.

File consists of 1 document: Interrogatories. The interrogatories for the examination of the Defendants in answer to the Plaintiff's Bill of Complaint. Case is in regards to the sale of the business of J.R. Stewart and the Defendant's purchase and management of the business.

  • Clepham is charged with robbing C. Payne and while doing so causing him grievous bodily harm by hitting him with a stick. Verdict, Guilty of Assault, Sentence, 2 months with hard labour.

Regina vs. Mock Cheng

Indictment for Stealing a Bridle; Information and Complaint of G. Byrnes; Depositors of G. Byrnes.

-Cheng is charged with stealing a bridle from the stable of Byrnes in Barkerville. verdict, Guilty, Sentence, 3 months with hard labour.

William Jones v. Joseph Mannion

File consists of one document: bill of complaint. Case regards the verbal partnership for the purpose of carrying on the business of Hotel and Saloon keepers at Granville, B.C.. Plaintiff unable to settle the accounts of the dissolved partnership, Defendant not cooperating.

Blakeney et al v. MacDonald et al

File consists of four documents: certificate of marriage between W. Blakeney and E. Reid; copy of the burial register for E. Blakeney; affidavit of W. Blakeney; defendant's bill of costs; plaintiff's bill of costs. Case regards W. Blakeney married E. Reid, who died without having made any disposition or appointment of the trust funds and property to which she became entitled to under the will of her father, J. Murray, deceased. Plaintiff is suing on behalf of E. Reid's children for the real estate entitled to her on Vancouver Island and the annual income of 120 pounds.
