Finalist's congratulation letter from Stephen Leacock Association

Contains a letter from Judith Rapson (Award Committee, Chair) of the Stephen Leacock Association congratulating Coupland for being a finalist for the 2007 Stephen Leacock Medal for Humour, for his novel JPod. Ultimately, Coupland did not win the award that year (Stuart McLean did).

Glove Pond jacket mock-up

Glove Pond is a novella that appears in installments throughout Coupland's novel The Gum Thief, ostensibly written by one of the novel's protagonists, Roger Thorpe. When the Gum Thief was published in September 2007, a special boxed edition was also released which included a separate hardback copy of the Glove Pond novella, including a pull-quote written by Douglas Coupland on the novella's jacket.

This file contains a colour laser print on paper of the Glove Pond jacket.

Globe Review article about Coupland's nests

Contains a copy of the Globe And Mail's Review Section (section R), which features "Coupland's literary lunch" on R1, an article by Sarah Milroy (September 6, 2005) on Coupland's chewed nests.

Partially filled sketchbook

Contains a 5.5"x8.5" sketchbook, of which only about 15 pages have been filled, consisting mostly of calligraphy and other written material.

Letter from Herbert H. Solway

Contains a handwritten note thanking Coupland for doing a "beautiful job of capturing Terry" Fox in his book, Terry. The brief and familiar nature of the note, and the lack of return address or envelope suggest that Coupland and Solway may have known each other.

Two reviews and an exhibition announcement

Contains printouts of two novel reviews and an exhibition announcement culled from the web: A review of Eleanor Rigby from the Guardian (October 9, 2004, another review of Eleanor Rigby from readysteadybooks.com (October 17, 2004; Natasha Tripney), and a Government of Canada public announcement for Canada House, Trafalgar Square (UK) exhibit (September 21, 2004).

Paper Nests

In 2004, Coupland produced a series of paper nests, inspired by those that wasps create. To make these nests, Coupland hand-chewed pages from two of his novels. The series contains samples of this paper in various stages of being pulped.

Two clippings

Contains a photocopy of an article from Gardening Life magazine (March/April 2003, p. 104), in which Coupland answers questions about his garden, and an article that appears to be from Vancouver magazine (Summer 1995; "A Doug's Life" by Dale Hrabi) on the world premiere screening of Douglas Coupland: Close Personal Friend (directed by Jennifer Cowan) in New York at the Museum of Television and Radio.
