The fonds of the Faculty of Medicine includes records which document the administrative and operational activities, actions and interests of the Faculty. Such records pertain to the establishment and organization of the Faculty; the development and actions of the Facultys governing bodies and committees; the planning, development and construction of various Faculty buildings such as the University Hospital, the I.R.C. Centre, the Basic Medical Sciences buildings and the Health Sciences Centre. These records also refer to the use of regional hospitals as clinical teaching hospitals and to relations between the Faculty and the University at large; as well as, with other university medical schools, governments, medical and related professions, associations and societies, businesses and hospitals. The records within this fonds also pertain to the Facultys receipt of gifts and donations, its departmental / divisional research endeavors and it applications for, and receipt of, awards for professional distinction. The fonds consists of reports and studies generated by Physical Plant and/or Plant Operations for various buildings and facilities between 1968 and 1983, and correspondence, reports, committee minutes, and published materials from UBC Utilities 1958-2001. The records in this fonds relate to both Physical Plant and its later title Land and Building Services.

Fonds consists of correspondence, reports, committee minutes, budget and other financial records, clippings, course materials, drawings, and photographs. The records document the evolution of the School of Architecture, its activities and programmes, and its relations with other architectural institutions and professional bodies. They are arranged in the following series: Historical Files, Building of Fine Arts Centre / Lasserre Building, Director's Files, Possible Closure of School, Director Search, UBC Library Bookplate Competition, Course and Programme Materials, and Scrapbooks. The fonds also includes three sous-fonds (sub-groups): the papers of former director Douglas Shadbolt, records of the Architectural Undergraduate Society, and the papers of former student Peter Cotton.

The fonds contains records pertinent to Lock Tin Lee’s functions as a KMT member, a public school educator, his personal life, and his overall involvement in organizations and affairs concerning the overseas Chinese. Lee’s records offer insight into the political aspirations of the Kuomintang amidst the backdrop of the Second Sino-Japanese War, the Cold War, the Chinese Civil War, and beyond; the public education scene for Chinese Canadians in British Columbia; and the lived experiences of the overseas Chinese in 20th century Canada.

Records predominantly range from Lee’s earlier years in China in the 1920s until his death in Vancouver, British Columbia, in 1980. Records include reports, correspondence, notebooks, receipts and invoices, maps, books and bound material, newspapers, greeting cards, song sheets, business cards, badges and memorabilia, stamps and plaques, photographs, poems, flag textiles, and more. Many of these records were created in British Columbia, Canada, but others were generated in the process of Lee’s travels to other countries (predominantly Taiwan) or were received by Lee from other individuals and organizations based outside of British Columbia or Canada. Some records were generated or received by Lee’s family members.

The fonds consists of five series: KMT, affiliated organizations and other associations; Personal records and relationships; Public school education; Personal library; and Photographs. Many of Lee’s records are functionally and thematically interrelated across the five series and between files.

The collection consists primarily of copies, and a small number of photographs, of cartoons commenting on legal, political, social and other matters impacting the relationship between Indigenous people and the settler state of Canada. The collection also includes some other graphical depictions of Indigenous people in settler Canadian media, such as product advertisements, tourism marketing, and depictions of Indigenous people in historical artworks and photographs.

The images were collated from a large number of publications; these are primarily Canadian publications, as well as some American, British, and Indigenous-authored publications. A list of Indigenous sources consulted by the collector is available for researcher reference.

Fonds consists of 370 black and white negatives taken between 1917 and 1924. The images are primarily of UBC students at the University's original Fairview campus. There are also shots of faculty members. As well as posed individual shots of students, there are many photographs of various student activities including the annual class picnic. Although most of the photographs are not identified they are very important for collectively documenting student life at the University in the late teen’s and early 1920s.

Fonds consists of meeting minutes, correspondence, reports, meeting notices and agendas, copies of agreements, newsletters, newspaper clippings and printed materials about issues and activities the Association was involved in and its administration. Fonds consists of textual records that document the origins, development, and activities of the Fisheries Centre, particularly its predecessor programmes: the Institute of Fisheries and the Institute of Animal Resource Ecology. The records include correspondence, reports, financial statements, grant documentation, minutes and agendas, course outlines, and published materials.

The fonds consists of records that Rothstein created and received as student, teacher, librarian, researcher and administrator. It includes correspondence, reports, handwritten notes and drafts, talks and articles, both published and unpublished ones, minutes of various meetings, photographs, research projects, talks and articles and biographical information. The fonds is arranged into 12 series: UBC School of Librarianship, Accreditation, Course Materials, UBC Library, UBC Committees, External Committees, Correspondence, Personal, Talks and Articles, Publications, and Photographs.

Fonds consists of published and unpublished works, subject files, correspondence, minutes, reports, sound recordings and a photograph relating to Basil Stuart-Stubbs' position as University Librarian and Director of the School of Librarianship (School of Library, Archival and Information Studies) at UBC, his involvement with the UBC Press, and his academic interests and activities. Gathered by a former student and colleague, Charles F. Ripley, this research collection includes three series relating to Terzaghi including; biographical materials, publications and professional reports. The reports series includes information about the British Columbia projects with which Terzaghi was involved. The research collection also includes copies of publications by Ralph B. Peck and J.D. Mollard.

The fonds consists of materials created, received or collected by various members of the Haweis family. The family members represented in the the Haweis family fonds include Lionel Haweis, his father and mother Reverend Hugh Reginald and Mary Eliza Haweis, sister Hugolin Haweis and brother Stephen Haweis and assorted other relatives.

It includes records of the meetings of various committees, councils, and panels in which Dr. Whittaker attended as well as records of various issues and topics related to SSFC and MOST activities. The fonds consists of materials created or collected by Osborne that relate primarily to his work with the various local, provincial, national and international sports and athletic organizations throughout his career.

The fonds consists of research material (1997-2002); correspondence (1994 to 2003); pre-production (1997-2001); production from 1997-2003; post-production (2000-2002); audio/video tapes (1997-2004); and photographs (2000-2001). The series has been separated into film-related terminology to retain the integrity of the filming process.

The fonds consists exclusively of news photography captured by Kelowna Capital News staff from 1978 through 2000. Coverage includes events, persons, and locations assessed as newsworthy at the time, predominantly concerning Kelowna and its immediate adjacencies. Attributed photographers include Val Gluschenko, Glen Schaefer, Rainer Ziegenhagen, Larry Langton, Mike Condon, Maev Brennan, Paul Saturley, Mark Zuehlke, Gordon Bazzana, Kevin Bird, and Allyson Jeffs.

The Tiananmen Square incident, also called June Fourth incident or 6/4, was a culmination of a series of protests and demonstrations in China in the spring of 1989 that culminated on the night of June 3–4 with a government crackdown on the demonstrators in Tiananmen Square in Beijing. Although the demonstrations and their subsequent repression occurred in cities throughout the country, the events in Beijing—and especially in Tiananmen Square, historically linked to such other protests as the May Fourth Movement (1919)—came to symbolize the entire incident.

Labels on the album pages indicate that the first 23 photographs in the album were taken on April 27, 1989, and the following 19 photographs were taken on May 4th, 1989.

(Translation: A brief history from April to June
On April 15, 1989, Yaobang Hu passed away. From April 15 to April 25, students and citizens of Beijing spontaneous mourned. On April 22, the memorial service held for Yaobang Hu, three students kneeled in protest outside the Great Hall of the People. On April 26, the People’s Daily editorial described the student effort as “turmoil”. On April 27, near one million people held demonstrations. The demonstrations continues on May 4. From May 5 to May 12, the streets are calm. On May 13th, hundreds of students from Peking University, Renmin University of China and Tsinghua University conducted a hunger strike in Tiananmen Square. On May 15, Gorbachev visited China. On May 17, millions of people took on the streets to hold a solidarity parade. The solidarity continued until May 19th. On May 17 through 19, Media continually made the real reports. At 12:30 am on May 20, Peng Li announced the implementation of martial law
in parts of Beijing. After half a month, on June 3 rd , massacre occurred — the 6/3 tragedy.)

This fonds is arranged into three series that track Symonds' various roles as an urban planning professional. The Urban Education/Teacher in the City series contains records created or received by Symonds while she served in the Continuing Education department at UBC, including her seminal effort to publish The Teacher and the City. The second series, Commissions and Committee Work, details Symonds' service on the Vancouver City Planning Commission and other planning-related committees she chaired or participated in for both the local B.C. context and internationally. The final series, Planning Publications, Speeches, and Writings, focuses on writings or pieces created by Symonds or publications she set aside for her purposes. These date from the early beginnings of her urban planning career in the 1950s to well after her retirement in 1983. The records included in the fonds are correspondence, meeting minutes, photographs, journal articles, newspaper clippings, brochures, memoranda, reports and invitations.

The fonds consists of the research on Le Fanu conducted by Roy Stokes. Records relate to the personal life and professional writing career of Le Fanu that were collected and composed by Roy Stokes. Records include: four original letters by or for Le Fanu, typed transcripts of letters, and correspondence between Stokes and various people and institutions throughout his research process; bibliographies by Roy Stokes and other authors; photographs and photo negatives of Beaumaris; newspapers and articles; photocopies of book chapters; and a poster and program for the Gate Theatre performance of “Carmilla”.

Fonds reflects Lee’s professional career, investment ventures, engagement with political and social communities, and life with friends and family. It offers particular insight into the social aspects of Lee’s life, as she kept many of the invitations, programs, and other ephemera relating to events that she attended because of her community involvement and philanthropy across all aspects of her life. In addition to a variety of textual records relating to her business ventures, volunteering, and military service, the fonds contains a significant number of photographs that were taken or otherwise collected by Lee and reflect the full range of her life’s facets.

The fonds is divided into five series: Entrepreneurship, investing, and business; Military service; Community and political activity; Personal records; and Photographs.

The entrepreneurship, investing, and business records series relates to Lee’s activities as a businesswoman and investor. Records in this series include financial and legal records, marketing materials, and certificates of recognition.

The military service records series relates to Lee’s time in the ambulance corps and subsequent involvement with initiatives in support of veterans. Records include a limited number of original materials from Lee’s period of service; correspondence and other records including meeting minutes and ephemera documenting Lee’s involvement veterans’ advocacy and recognition efforts.
The community and political activity records series relate to Lee’s involvement in Chinese Canadian community projects and the Social Credit and Conservative parties of Canada. Records in this series include ephemera, correspondence, and meeting minutes that document her involvement with these groups.

The personal records series relates to Lee’s travels as well as her life outside of her work and volunteer efforts. Records include correspondence, ephemera, and certificates.

The photographs series relates to a large number of photo albums and loose photographs that reflect all aspects of Lee’s life.

Fonds consists of records documenting the administration of TRIUMF and includes Board of Management minutes and meeting dockets, committee minutes, and reports. Also included are reports and published proposals documenting the origins and ongoing development of TRIUMF. The records are arranged in the following series: Board of Management, Finance Committee, Audit Committee, and Reports.

Fonds consists of records documenting a review of the Department of Philosophy in 1988 and the Department’s response to that review, and the development of a five-year plan for the Department (1989-90).

The fonds consists of biographical information, correspondence, publications, news clippings, photographs, awards, reports, diaries and ephemera, which belong to or were written/created by Lyle Creelman.

The collection consists of a series of interviews carried out by Michael Welton with various friends and colleagues of Watson Thomson as part of his dissertation research for "To Be and Build the Glorious World: The Educational Thought and Practice of Watson Thomson, 1899-1946" (1983).

The fonds consists of lectures, papers, proposals, reports, correspondence, clippings, published materials, photographs and one audiotape relating to Rice's research and publishing activities, her work with various professional associations, and advocacy for the professional regulation of midwifery in B.C. The fonds also contains correspondence, reports, memoranda, minutes and other administrative records from Rice's involvement with the Nurse-Midwifery Service at Grace Hospital.
The fonds is arranged into the following series: Education (1980-1, 1993); Published Writing, Proposals, Lectures and Research Materials (1977-2002); Nurse-Midwifery Service (1983-1991); Professional Associations (1976-1992); Professional Regulation of Midwifery (1978-1999, predominant 1987-1997); UBC Midwifery Degree Program (2000-2001) and Audio (1997).

The fonds consists of 44 separate archival series most of which are based on specific production titles. For each title there is a digital master copy of the program(s). Each production includes a set of video and audio elements, the bulk of which are original shoot tapes. In addition there is also corresponding textual material that helps provide context and background for the development of the various projects. The textual and a/v materials have been described in separate sections of the inventory. For both sets of material the numbers assigned during the original cataloguing and creation of the database have been retained and appear in square brackets [ ] as part of the descriptions to allow for cross referencing as necessary.
First donation: This donation is Paperny Film's first to an archival repository and it represents 27 of the company's indigenous proprietary titles (1996-2004) of their approximately 55 non-fiction productions (1996-2007). The collection is comprehensive in that it offers digital master copies of each of the title/series included in this donation. There are 62 original masters that include over 50 hours of recordings. There is also a DVD copy of each of the master tapes to provide easy access to the information.
The collection features over 1900 a/v elements arising from some 27 separate productions. The scope of material includes: BetacamSP, MiniDV, Digial Betacam, DVD, VHS, CDs and digital audio tapes. The majority of the collection consists of original shoot tapes. There are over 1,000 hours of video recordings featuring prominent Canadian including Mortecai Richler, Henry Morgentaler, Jimmy Pattison, and Nancy Green.
In addition to the obvious importance of providing access to full interview interviews with and about prominent Canadians, the a/v elements are also quite instructive in helping communicate an understanding of the creative process that gave rise to particular productions.
The textual material extents to approximately 5.15 metres and also includes over 13,000 photographic images. The images document the various production shoots and, in some cases, include copies of historical photographs/documents that were used in the productions.
Examples of the types of records included with the textual material include: treatments, outlines, synopses, proposals; collected research materials; correspondence relating to development, production, publicity; original interview notes and transcripts, interview schedules; scripts (and drafts), storyboards; production schedules, production reports and daily call sheets; publicity stills, negatives, transparencies and digital photographs; marketing plans, publicity packages, one-sheets, press releases and coverage; transcripts of completed shows; EDL's (edited decision list), assembly notes, tape logs; credit rolls, final credits and super lists.
Of particular interest in the textual material are a set of handwritten notebooks created by David Paperny, Audrey Mehler and others. Seventeen in total, these notebooks are in Box 1 (3,4,5,6,11,12,13,14,15); Box 4 (3,8); Box 6 (17); Box 11 (23a); and Box 12 (8).
Second donation: The second donation from Paperny Film's represents 15 of the productions (1993-2006) including the Academy Award nominated The Broadcast Tapes of Dr. Peter. The collection offers digital master copies of each of the title/series included in this donation. There are 183 original masters and a DVD copy of each to provide easy access to the
information.
The collection features over 1200 AV elements arising from 15 separate productions, some of which have several seasons associated with them. The scope of material includes: BetacamSP, MiniDV, Digital Betacam, DVC Pro, DVCAM, Betacam SX, DVD, VHS, CDs and digital audio tapes. The majority of the collection consists of original shoot tapes.
There are roughly 75 cm of textual material in the newest accession.
Examples of the types of records included with the textual material include: episode synopses, outlines and storyboards; graphics; proposals; collected research materials; correspondence; original interview notes and transcripts; schedules; research notes and materials; scripts; publicity stills, negatives, transparencies and digital photographs; marketing plans, advertisements, publicity packages, one-sheets, press releases and coverage; and transcripts of completed shows.

Fonds consists almost entirely of materials created or acquired by John Knox over the course of his studies and professional life. The fonds is organized in the following series: Atmospheric blocking and Northern Hemisphere anomalies, Extended-Range and Analogue Forecasting, Climate Trends and Variability, Ocean Weather Station "Papa", Prairie drought ("Dry/Wet"), Cli-Red, and Miscellaneous Professional Activities.

The fonds consists of textual records, both typewritten and handwritten, as well as CDs and newsprint.

Fonds consists of materials that document the personal and professional activities of Abraham Rogatnick and includes handwritten notes and notebooks on historical and architectural subjects, index cards, typewritten speeches, writings, correspondence, and photographs. Fonds includes correspondence, notes, publications, maps, drawings, photographs, and presentation aids pertaining to Alan Sawyer’s academic research, writing, curatorial and appraisal work. Includes provenance information and research regarding Sawyer's private collection of art and artefacts including sales records, photographs, inventories, catalogues and correspondence.

This fonds contains records relating to Cameron MacLeod’s schooling, personal life, and work as an artist. The majority of the material spans from his childhood until his death in 1983, but the fonds also contains records relating to posthumous exhibitions of his artwork. Included in the fonds are schoolwork, personal reflections and journals, correspondence with family and friends, photographs, and examples of his artwork.

The collection consists of correspondence, photographs, newsletters, and other materials related to the UBC graduating class of 1935 and the various reunions and alumni activities associated with that class.

Fonds consists of textual records created and acquired by the Committee on Arrangements in the course of its activities, and includes committee minutes, conference statistics, sample forms, and assorted printed material.

Fonds consists of editorial files and materials accumulated by Cyril Belshaw as editor of Current Anthropology. The materials include correspondence, reports, minutes of meetings, publications, manuscripts (accepted and rejected), and financial statements. Fonds consists of records produced by or for UBC Financial Services which document the University’s finances, including annual financial reports and statements, budgets, appraisals, and staff training. The records are arranged in four series: Financial Reports and Statements, Budgets, Appraisement, and Training Documentation.

The collection consists of materials related to Aboriginal Peoples’ land claims and forestry practices in British Columbia and worldwide. Materials include correspondence, press clippings, publications, and reports.

The fonds consists of correspondence between the ALGOL 68 working group members, drafts, working papers, and reports on the language. Fonds also contains a small number of the ALGOL Bulletin and a photo of the working group.
