Michael M. Ames fonds

Fonds consists of departmental records from Anthropology and Sociology (1964-2000); Canadian Sociology and Anthropology Association records (1970-1979); and material relating to the Simon Fraser University dispute concerning the Department of Political Science, Sociology and Anthropology (1969-1971). Ames assembled this group of records through his participation on the C.S.A.A. team, which studied the situation. The papers also include Ames's descriptions of the Board of Directors of the Canadian Museums Association (1980-1983) and the Shastri Indo-Canadian Institute (1967-1995). The material relating to the Shastri Institute includes records generated or collected by Ames and other members of the Institute at UBC. The names of other members are indicated in the file title. Also, the fonds contains manuscripts and drafts, records about Ames's research, courses taught by Ames, a variety of conferences and seminars, and records about Ames’ participation in several museum studies program reviews. Finally, the fonds also contain Ames' involvement with the Museum of Anthropology (MOA). Most records as Director and Acting Director of MOA are held at the MOA Archives. British Columbia Ecological Reserves fonds

The fonds consist of reports from field surveyors submitted as applications to designate areas in British Columbia for protection. The fonds also contains supporting records relating to the wider Ecological Reserve program and include correspondence, progress reports, presentations, memorandums, lectures, briefs, surveys, "dead applications", news clippings, Orders of the Lieutenant in Council [photocopies], pamphlets, check sheets, aerial photographs, park proposals, handwritten notes, and meeting minutes. Also included is a small series of records relating to Vladimir Krajina, including; general correspondence, curriculum vitae, a list of publications, articles, newspaper clippings, notes, a legacy biography and obituary.
The archivist restored the original order where it was definitive. However, Ecological Reserve Applications 1-39 can be found scattered throughout the supporting records series. The original record keeper appears to have created a filing system beginning at the Ecological Reserve Application 40 (Petitot Rivers).

At Home in the Universe: The Life and Times of William Shatner fonds

Fonds consists of audiovisual material created or compiled during production as well as 14 folders of written documentation related to the production of the film. It consists largely of interviews with Shatner, members of his family and associates, portions of previous roles portrayed by Shatner, as well as reminiscences from other prominent actors such as Leonard Nimoy, Kate Mulgrew, Patrick Stewart and Jason Alexander. There is also extensive footage of Shatner at his ranch, hosting his annual charity horseshow, touring his childhood home and McGill University, and his attempts to save the wild horses of Santa Cruz Island.
The content of this fonds is housed on several different video and audio formats: such as Betacam SP(small) and (large), Hi-8, VHS, U-Matic tape (¾ in.), audiocassette tape and DAT audio tape. Much of this audio and video material was used in the production of the final “cut” of the documentary, and content is represented across several of these formats, with audio content found in both audio and video formats.

The collection consists of photography of every aspect of World War I - from cadet training to soldiers' graves. Every theatre of war is represented, but the majority of prints were taken in Europe, particularly on the battlefields of France and Belgium. In Britain, there are prints of Gibson Girls welding ships or carting coal. There are prints of royalty and military commanders, including Greek, Belgian and Japanese aristocracy. The technology of war is illustrated in the numerous prints of planes, ships, tanks and guns of all kinds. The collection is strong in portraying the average "Tommy" and his role in the war.

Continuing Education fonds

The fonds consist of proceedings, correspondence, minutes, reports, statistics, program and course descriptions, proposals, news releases, and publications. Many of the records originated from the Director's Office of the Centre for Continuing Education, and its predecessor, the Department of University Extension. They document these units' functions, activities, policies, and relationships with other University bodies and external agencies. Also included are audio recordings of lectures and other events sponsored by the Centre. There are also records from the office of the Associate Vice-President, Academic, from when he oversaw the operations of the Centre between 1988 and 1991. Other materials originated from the Women's Resources Centre: three folders of reports, correspondence, and photocopied newspaper clippings relating to the 1971 Status of Women conference, and over thirty publications dealing with women's issues.
A 2017 accrual of material more than doubled the size of the fonds. These records included small additions to the following series: Central Office Files, Administrative Committees, and Staff Relations. More significant additions were added to the Projects and Series, Programs, UBC Departments, UBC Committees, and External Bodies series. Additionally, a significant addition to the fonds was made in the resources series, which includes proceedings and course materials.
A 2018 accrual moderately increased the size of the fonds. Some files from folders without the typical alpha-numerical filing system pattern were placed with the Central Office series. Their contents matched the series description, including grant proposals, memos, correspondence, and budget information. Two new series were added, General History and Associate Vice-President Academic (Dr. Walter Uegama). Dr. McClean's series received additions from the 1992 re-organization and the Strategic Planning of 1993. Projects and Studies, UBC Committees, and UBC Departments series received significant additions as well. External Bodies received an increase, primarily related to CAUCE. The Liaison with External Agencies, Policies and Procedures, Programs, Special Events, and Status of Women series received small additions.

Also, because of the close working relationship between the Department and the Vancouver Hospital & Health Sciences Centre Department of Medicine -- the two were led by the same department head for much of the 1990s -- some VHHSC records were kept with the UBC files in the department offices; they remained interfiled when the records were transferred to the University Archives. The records include correspondence, reports, minutes, and published materials. The fonds consists mainly of records generated by the Alumni Association in the course of its programs and activities and by its branches and divisions. The records are in the form of correspondence, reports, minutes of meetings, manuscripts for The Chronicle, and some published materials. Also included in the fonds are materials of historical interest collected by Frances Tucker in the course of her research for a history of the Association published for its fiftieth anniversary in 1966; these consist of written notes, clippings and other published materials, scrapbooks, photographs, correspondence, the first draft of her project, and index cards. Finally, the records of Harry Franklin, Executive Director from 1972 to 1979, are included; the files contain some Association records as well as Franklin's. Records stored in boxes 1-20 date from 1911 to 1966, and the rest date from 1955 to 1992. Because of the long time period between the accessions of these two bodies of records, and their different organization, they have not been physically integrated. Wherever possible, their original order has been maintained or restored.
