[Local 1 Executive correspondence and other material]

File contains correspondence, news releases, the proposed contract for 1976-77, and other records dated September 15, 1976 to January 13, 1978. Topics discussed include AUCE using the campus mail system, tension between Locals and AUCE Provincial, discussion of a UBC Anti-Inflation Board report, negotiations, dues, contract proposals, a referendum to donate money to SORWUC, and interactions between the CUPE national office and CUPE 116. File also contains a copy of the AUCE newsletter "Across Campus" from September 15, 1976 that includes information on CUPE 116 and possible strike action, and a vote and recommendation to respect CUPE picket lines.

Working conditions

File contains material relating to working conditions at UBC. Records include "Second draft of amendments to Industrial Health & Safety Regulations (First Aid Section)" from the Worker's Compensation Board of British Columbia (dated September 25, 1978), documents produced by Local 1's Working Conditions Committee, correspondence regarding working conditions, an inspection report, a report regarding the detrimental effects of fluorescent lighting, and a newspaper clipping regarding stretching exercises for office workers.

File also contains a pamphlet from the UBC Alumni Association's Wesbrook Society (possibly from 1982), and copies of Local 1's grievance form.

[Miscellaneous correspondence]

File contains correspondence between the Association of University and College Employees and other organizations, from 1973 to 1975. Topics discussed include the status of women in education and employment, health and safety information from the Workman's Compensation Board, conferences and seminars, flexible work week. Organizations corresponded with include UBC and the The Women's Office of the Alma Mater Society (AMS), the Workman's Compensation Board, Variety Club, Service, Office, and Retail Workers Union of Canada News ( SORWUC), the University Endowment Lands Tenants Society (UELTS), and others. File also contains pamphlets, a SORWUC newsletter (vol. 1, no. 1) from Spring 1975, an information package from the UELTS including surveys about housing and a map of the area, a copy of the HEU newsletter (vol. 11, no. 1) from January 1974 including their proposed collective agreement, and photocopies of case law.

Topics include support of causes and other unions, newsletters, arbitration, the Provincial Convention, the Consumer Price Index, educational courses, union staffing and membership, formation of an AUCE Travel Club, office equipment, pension plans, finances, the Essential Services Disputes Act, relations and negotiations with UBC, job descriptions, debates of the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia, steward seminars, and human rights.

File contains meeting minutes, correspondence, a copy of the CUE Constitution, and other records dated November 5, 1985 to January 15, 1986. Topics discussed include Ritchie and Associates and Work to Rule, background on the company and their activities, directions to union members on how to respond to reviews, a presentation from the CUPE representative at UVIC, bylaw amendments, nominations, reports from the union office and contract committee, grievances, AUCE Local 1 name change to become the Canadian University Employees (CUE), financial statements, information on courses and seminars, a news release about the HEU, and a list of union dues according to paygrade.

File contains reports and news releases dated January 1980 to March 10, 1980. Topics discussed include the Muckamuck strike, finances, bylaws, conventions, affiliation meetings with SORWUC representatives, and information about different unions. File also contains a copy of SORWUC's National Union Constitution, and the SORWUC newsletter from February 1980.
