The fonds consists of photocopied typescripts of Shearer's notes on his travels from Montreal to Europe (1893), Montreal to Agassiz, B.C. (1893-1897) and his ports of call while serving naval duty in the Mediterranean, Red and Black Seas (1899-1903).

The fonds consists of textual materials, photographs, slides, negatives, sound recordings and memorabilia created and collected during Homer Stevens career with the United Fishermen and Allied Workers Union (UFAWU), as well as in his personal life. The fonds has been arranged into six series according to subject matter: Personal, UFAWU, Mt. Thurston Prison Camp, Printed Materials, Ephemera and Memorabilia, and Newspaper Clippings.

The fonds consists of the minute books of various locals that are now part of the Local 40 (1910-1966), handbooks (1949-1951), two minute books of locals (1961-1973), minute book of Local Joint Executive Board (1958-1974), meeting roster (1972-1976) and weekly time books for staff, Local 619 (1965-1970). The fonds also includes photographs, clippings, two office files on union activities, copy of a report on the B.C. Hotel Industry (1978) and clippings and leaflets concerning election (1981). Some of the locals were located in Nanaimo, Nelson, New Westminster, Port Alberni, Vancouver and Victoria. Fonds includes a sound cassette of an interview of Jim Morrison on the history of HREU locals 28 and 40.

The fonds consists mainly of his personal manuscripts and his activities relating to his work as published by Harbour Publishing Company. Much of his incoming and outgoing correspondence as well as subject files relate to books he has published or is planning to do so in the future. Major writers and/or correspondents include Anne Cameron, Pat Lane, Margaret Laurence, and Tom Wayman. A publication log kept by Hubert Evans (1928-1967) is also included.

The fonds consists of records of the Howe Sound Company Britannia Division and the Britannia Mining and Smelting Company which document a variety of functions including personnel, payroll and accounting, financial and income tax reporting, accident reporting, insurance planning, mineral exploration, and negotiations with the International Mine Mill Workers' Union and the International Mine Metal and Smelter Workers' Union. There are also a few records from the Howe Sound Power Company and the Torbit Mining Company.

Correspondence regarding UBC, Canadian and foreign business and personal contacts, his relationship with community groups and memberships he held, as well as his family history is included.

The fonds consists of manuscripts and published forms of Evans' articles, short stories, radio plays, poems and novels. The fonds also contains many of Evans' diaries, journals, notebooks and sketchbooks which provide valuable insights into the author's personality. His extensive business and personal correspondence includes letters to and from Margaret Laurence, Silver Donald Cameron and Grace MacInnis, as well as many readers and publishing houses. The fonds also includes audio and video recordings of interviews, poetry, stories and novels used by Hubert Evans when his eyesight began to fail. Finally, the fonds contains the papers of Evans' wife Ann (Anna) Winter Evans, which consists of stories and articles.
