Barnard vs Beedy

Affidavit of F.J. Barnard in support of Caprias; Praecipe for Writ of Attachment.

-Plaintiff claims that the Defendant is justly and truly indebted to him for $3,972.11, that being the amount certified due to him by the Registrar of the Supreme Court as the amount owed on unpaid accounts. The Defendant has not paid the Plaintiff the amount certified to be due and he has since left the province.

Bennett vs. Adams

-The Plaintiff is a bridge builder, the Defendant is a carpenter and joiner. The Defendant was contracted with the government of B.C. to build a bridge across the Quesnel River and asked the Plaintiff, who agreed, to work with him for a share in the profits and a partnership agreement. The Plaintiff ended up doing all of the work. The Defendant was paid in full, but would not disclose his accounts of the costs of construction. The Plaintiff believes that if her were to see these accounts, a considerable balance would be owed to him by the Defendant.

Bernard v. Smith

Blakeney et al v. MacDonald et al

File consists of four documents: certificate of marriage between W. Blakeney and E. Reid; copy of the burial register for E. Blakeney; affidavit of W. Blakeney; defendant's bill of costs; plaintiff's bill of costs. Case regards W. Blakeney married E. Reid, who died without having made any disposition or appointment of the trust funds and property to which she became entitled to under the will of her father, J. Murray, deceased. Plaintiff is suing on behalf of E. Reid's children for the real estate entitled to her on Vancouver Island and the annual income of 120 pounds.

Series consists of four bound volumes of documents originating from the British Columbia Provincial Police (specifically the New Westminster
headquarters):

  1. General orders #1-390, 1923-1950: Two ledgers of memorandums circulated to the various district headquarters of the BCPP announcing changes in procedure, law, and policy and announcing personnel changes such as promotions, dismissals, reassignments, and deaths in the force. An index exists for general orders 1 through 271, bound in volume 2.

  2. Nominal roll and seniority list, 1926-1950: One ledger of nominal rolls, giving names and registration numbers of police officers and other personnel, organized by divisions and districts. Also contains seniority lists, which lists the names and registration numbers of personnel in all districts organized by hierarchy. Updates were sent to the various districts periodically.

  3. War circulars, volumes 1-8, 1939-1946: One ledger of circulars issued during World War II, giving special changes to procedure or reporting on relevant changes in law or orders in council which would affect policing during the war. Issues include fire arms possession and registration, status of First Nations people in the forces, rationing and oil supplies, and the registration of “enemy aliens.”

  • Lee is summoned to appear in court to answer the Plaintiff for the total amount of £2.2.4. The amount is due for 2 pairs of socks, cleaning and binding a cap, and altering a cricket coat.

Bryant v. Bartleman

File consists of two documents: Affidavit of P. Bartleman and A Verdier; and Writ of Summons. Plaintiff claims $40 principal due to him as payee on a promissory note. The Defendant claims that he has already settled the debt.

Buckley v. The Vancouver Coal Mining and Land Company Ltd. and Mark Bate, General Agent and Manager

File consists of four documents: summons; motion; (2) bill of complaint. Case involving a land dispute, Plaintiff wishing to pay the balance on his land purchase and to then be entitled to the land as owner so the Defendants will be unable to prosecute or commense action of legal proceedings against the Plaintiff for recovery of the land used for coal mining.

Bunster v. Corry

File consists of 3 documents: Affidavit to Hold to Bail; Affidavit of A. Glover; Affidavit of H.C. Courtney. Bunster bought some machinery from the Defendant and the Defendant did not then deliver in full as per the said agreement. The Plaintiff has learned that the Defendant is about to quit the colony for San Francisco and asks that he be apprehended.

Bunster v. Joseph and Joseph

File consists of two documents: Records; and Jury List. Plaintiff claims $6,000 for damages. Plaintiff is owner of land through which a stream water flowed, and also owner of buildings on the said land for use by the Plaintiff in his trade of malster and brewer. The
Defendant obstructed and prevented the water of the stream from running and flowing, causing it to overflow and rise to a much higher than normal level, flooding the Plaintiffs land and buildings, and ruining large quantities of malt ale and beer.
