Slogans for the Early Twenty-first Century placards

Series contains 12 artist’s proof placards of Coupland’s Slogans for the Twenty-First Century. Six sets of the slogans were created in early 2011, two of which are artist’s proofs.

The content of the slogans was developed to be featured on the Waldorf Hotel’s marquee in Vancouver as advertisement for the Coupland-McLuhan-YouTube event that occurred on May 26, 2011. Hosted by Douglas Coupland, the event consisted of an interactive presentation on Marshall McLuhan and YouTube. Posters were created out of the placard sets and wheat pasted throughout Vancouver.

The fonds consists of incoming correspondence primarily from writer Jane Rule (1976-1983) and to a lesser extent from her partner Helen Sonthoff. It also includes copies of miscellaneous articles and columns by and about Jane Rule collected by Jean Wilson.

Series consists of copies of Mattessich’s publications and includes copies of scholarly journals, off-prints, photocopies, manuscripts, and diagrams intended for his book Accounting and Analytical Methods. The materials are arranged largely in chronological order.

Translations

Series documents the work of Kathleen Kudo to translate Minoru Kudo’s diaries as well as the research performed by the Kudo family to document the history and experiences of the Mission City Japanese Community.

Records in this series include logs relating to the translation and photocopying activity of Kathleen Merken; her translation notes; additional documents related to ideas about publication and framing of the diaries and their historical value; and printed versions of the translations in various states of drafting. During the process of translation, Merken removed clippings and other ephemera that were initially preserved within the diaries of Minoru Kudo and placed them in their corresponding chronological place within the translations. As a result, these materials are also included within this series.

The series includes one subseries that contains the translation documents and a second that contains the research material.

Material on published and unpublished work

This series contains records of Kilian's writing career and process. This includes research and notes for books and articles, manuscripts, examples of early writing, and book proposals. Topics investigated in these writing processes include science fiction, creative writing and writing for the web, educational systems, and British Columbian history.

SFF Third Edition

This file contains born-digital records relating to the third edition of Killian's book, Writing Science Fiction and Fantasy. Documents are in .doc and .pages format and include revisions made for the publication of this edition.
