The collection consists of research material created or collected by Olof Seaholm pertaining to Swedish immigration and organizations to Canada and North America. The collection mainly consists of general research material related to these themes, but there is some more specialized research into specific areas of Swedish Canadian history, such as the Scandinavian Central Committee and the International Order of Good Templars. Textual records in this collection include minute books, clippings, a constitution, correspondence, research notes, newspaper and magazine issues and clippings, books, and photographs documenting Swedish communities in British Columbia and research material about Swedish activities in North America.

The collection contains four series related to Seaholm's research. They include the Swedish Canadian research material series; Scandinavian Central Committee series; Independent Order of Good Templars series; and the Swedish Canadian Rest Home material series.

Independent Order of Good Templars

Series contains information pertaining to the Linnea Lodge No. 76 of the International Order of the Good Templars of the Province of British Columbia. Records include a roll book and constitution, a membership book, regalia, and what appears to be an account book.

Swedish Canadian research material

During the 1960s, Seaholm received a grant from the New Horizon program to write a history about Swedish immigration to Canada. Although he never finished writing a book about this topic, this collection contains much of his research related to this ambition. The collection consists of correspondence, reports, minute books, newspaper and magazine issues and clippings, periodicals, books pertaining to Sweden and/or Swedish immigrant history, and research material about Swedish activities in North America. The series also contains a photograph collection of the Swedish community in British Columbia.

The series contains eight subseries: General research material; Photo collection; "They left something behind" collection; Book Collection; Swedish Pioneer Historical Quarterly periodicals; The Bridge (Brggyan in Swedish); Swedish Press Publishing Company; and Newspaper clippings and miscellaneous articles.

Book Collection

This series contains over 20 books on Swedish culture, history, and emigration and immigration to North America. Some of the books are in English while the others are in Swedish. A book index is available.

Swedish Press Publishing Company

This subseries contains newspaper clippings and issues, meeting minutes, and Seaholm's research notes about the Swedish Press, a newspaper based out of Vancouver, but published in Swedish. Subseries also contains microfilmed versions of issues of the Swedish Press (some under its Swedish title Svenska Pressen) from 1929 to 1956.

Scandinavian Central Committee

Series contains material pertaining to the Scandinavian Central Committee, located in Vancouver. The records include Seaholm's personal research and notes, meeting minutes, news bulletins, photographs, and news clippings.

General research material

The subseries contains newspaper and magazine clippings, index card notes by Seaholm on Swedish Canadians and Canadian history, photographs of Swedish Canadians, a handmade manuscript compiled by Seaholm of a chronology of Swedish Canadian contributions to the development of British Columbia, and a miscellaneous collection of stories on immigration in America. Clippings are in English and Swedish.

The Bridge (Brggyan in Swedish)

This series contains copies of the periodical The Bridge, which is in English and printed in Sweden. The issues contain feature articles regarding Swedish immigration to Canada and the United States that Seaholm used in his research.

"They left something behind" collection

The series contains photographs and research material towards Seaholm's proposed book, They Left Something Behind. The slides contain information on the history and institutions of the Swedish immigrants to the United States and Canada. The slides are accompanied with a manual which provide context and other information about the slides.

Photo collection

This series consists of approximately 500 prints and photos of immigrants and their institutions in U.S. and Canada. There is an index list with names, when available, that accompanies this series.
