The International Association of Bridge, Structural and Ornamental Iron Workers local chapter 712 is a shopmen's union, representing iron-workers in Vancouver, British Columbia. The chapter is a member of the Ironworkers District Council of Western Canada, and of the International Association of Bridge, Structural, Ornamental, and Reinforcing Iron Workers. Local 712 is a democratically operated union with elected officers and in-shop committees. The union's main functions include bargaining on behalf of members for collective agreements with employees, assistance and participation in pension and workers compensation programs, and access to legal council and job placement assistance.

The fonds consists of minute books, correspondence, financial records, business agents files, office files, contract agreements, printed material and membership cards reflecting the activities and duties of the union.

Physical condition
The majority of materials are in good condition. Some pages of reports are ripped, folded, or faded. Where possible, ledgers have been disassembled and reports have been placed in file folders for long term preservation.

Finding aids
RBSC staff created an inventory for the fonds in 1984 (see attached PDF). In 2019 an accrual was made to the fonds, and a finding aid for this has been added as an addendum to the original finding aid, available as attached PDF.
