Biographical history
Kanchenjunga Press was founded in Bloomington, Indiana in 1972 to publish quality modern poetry by writers who were unknown or had not yet made a reputation for themselves. The Press endeavoured to produce inexpensive paperback volumes which would withstand many readings. The Press soon moved to California and expanded into the Vancouver, British Columbia, area by forming a cooperative agreement with a small Vancouver publishing company, Sono Nis, later taken over by the Charles Morris Company of Victoria.

The fonds consists of extensive correspondence, administrative and financial records, advertisement and catalogue samples, typescripts and manuscripts of poetry by K.S. Keys, Dennis Lee, and J. Michael Yates, published books of poetry, and duplicate covers of published Press books. Correspondence is primarily between Kanchenjunga Press and various libraries (public and university), printers, book reviewers (including the New York Times Book Review), and booksellers. Administrative records are primarily planning documents, project files including Reading Tour 1974-1975, and ISBN logging records. Financial records include banking records for Canada and the US, invoices, and receipts.
