Scope and content

Lillian Estabrooks (née Gibson), occasionally known as Bill Gibson, (b. 1902 August 1 in Almada, SK, d. 2003 August 17 in Penticton BC) grew up in Keremeos. She and husband Richard (Dick) Estabrooks had three children: Bruce, Don, and Helen. In 1981 under the pen name Bill Gibson she collaborated with Doug Cox to publish Under The K: Memories of Growing Up in Keremeos. Lillian Estabrooks was also a regular contributor to the Okanagan Historical Society annual reports.

Subseries consists of materials with provenance or pertinence to Lillian Estabrooks. Subseries is predominantly composed of photographs taken, collected, or otherwise attributed to Lillian Estabrooks, primarily during the years 1913-1920.
Subseries also include scollected manuscripts, family trees, and notes. Also includes interview by Doug Cox with “Billy Estabrooks” (pseudonym conflation between “Lillian Estabrooks” and her pen name “Bill Gibson”).

Subseries is arranged into 8 files or portions of files.

Physical condition

Immediate source of acquisition

The audio tape containing Doug Cox’s interview attributed to Billy Estabrooks is included in this subseries description because it forms part of a corpus defined by origin by Lillian Estabrooks / Bill Gibson; the single audio tape in this series does not merit the creation of its own subseries as has been the practice with comparable situations in the Doug Cox Research Collection (i.e. Joe Harris). The inconsistency in sorting principle is noted: This subseries features a mixture of functions at the highest series delineations. This arrangement has been chosen with findability and contextuality for the researcher at top of mind.
