Scope and content

File consists of 23 maps assembled by Rev. Andrew MacDonell, arranged as one file perhaps by Clare Lawrence, related to the settlement of Clandonald, Alberta, including maps of the townsite, sections of land in the adjacent area, and of Red Deer and Vermillion, Alberta. File includes a 1922 sectional map produced by the Surveyor General of Canada of Red Deer, a 1923 map with hand drawn annotations, perhaps by Macdonell, of prospective colony areas near Red Deer, a "Canadian Pacific Railway Co. Map showing locations of 57 farms to be developed North of Vermillion" produced by the Canadian Pacific Department of Colonization and Development, twelve large-scale sectional maps of townships of the Clandonald Colony with handwritten annotations indicating settlers' names, land purchase price, advance payments and mortgages, land value, area cultivated and area wasted, as well as miles to the nearest railway siding, a map hand drawn in ink of "Clandonald Colony" with two bluelines prints, a blueprint "Map of the 'Clan-Donald Colony' showing original 100 farms", a handcoloured and annotated blueprint map of "Clan-Donald Colony, Vermilion District, Alberta", a map of "Cty. 24, Vermilion River", and a blueline print of a map of the town of Clandonald produced by Canadian Pacific Alberta Division originally drawn in 1927 and revised to 1959.
