History

This historic force was established by the Canadian government in 1873 as the Northwest Mounted Police and a year later marched into what is known as the provinces of Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba to enforce federal laws. In 1920 the Northwest Mounted Police amalgamated with the Dominion Police to form the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. They have continued to serve as Canada's major law enforcement agency.
