This subseries includes research files primarily compiled by Kathleen Merken that contain correspondence between Merken and other Japanese Canadians, copies of other families’ recollections and accounts of their forced removal, and other reference materials such as maps, timelines, and excerpts from text that help to contextualize and document this history.

Research notes, press clippings, printouts of referential (encyclopedic) web pages, traditional and email correspondence, journal articles, and ephemera (playbills, theatre brochures etc.). It also includes some maps from Grace’s research trips. Material is grouped into sections: bibliographic references, biographical/genealogical, research notes by archival institutions, notes by theatre, and notes by-product. Subseries consists of records that were used for research during the creation of Literature In English. Each file within the subseries pertains to a particular writer or poet that was featured in the anthology.

This subseries consists of records relating to research projects conducted by other universities or organizations that UBC Distance Education and Technology participated in and helped to fund. It consists of correspondence, contracts, meeting agenda and minutes, and research proposals and descriptions.

Within the subseries, projects are arranged alphabetically by residential owners.

Sub-series consists of records related to the society‟s income and
expenses. Records related to account activity, including summaries of deposits/withdrawals and bank statements are included. Receipts, invoices, copies of outgoing and incoming cheques, controls cards, ledgers and written expenses are also included. Files containing information about business associates are predominantly correspondence, but also contain invoices and receipts.

Reverend A.H. Cameron arrived in Keremeos in 1906 and established a Presbyterian church where he presided as its first minister for many years. He captured a large number of pictures during his tenure, leaving a photographic record of local affairs. Subseries consists of photographs attributed to him.

Sub-series consists of records relating to the production and publication of Ricepaper, a magazine published by the Asian Canadian Writers Workshop. Records include submissions, reports, drafts of articles, flatplans, financial information, correspondence, grant applications and reports, circulation plans, and staff position descriptions.

Biographical sketches
The Tweddle and Richter families of the Similkameen and South Okanagan are linked primarily by Florence Elizabeth Loudon. Loudon was married first to F.X. Richter; after Richter’s death, she remarried Haliburton Tweddle.
Richter: Francis Xavier Richter (1837-1910) was born in Freidland, Bohemia on November 5, 1837. In 1864 arrived in the Okanagan/Similkameen area to start cattle ranching. He and Lucy Simla (1846-1903, also notated as Lucy simla Acat, also notated as Lucy Sʔímlaʔxʷ), a member of what is now the Okanagan First Nation of Vernon, BC, were married in 1867 or 1868. They had 5 sons: Charles (1869-1949), William (1872-1922), Joseph (1874-1971), Edward (1876-1971), and John “Hans” Richter (1877-1961).
Prior to the death of Lucy Simla, F.X. Richter married Florence Elizabeth Loudon (1877 – 1959) in 1894 and subsequently fathered six more children: Betty, Freida, Frances, Helen, Kathleen, Francis X. Richter, Jr. F.X. Richter’s and Lucy Simla’s oldest son, Charles, married Florence Loudon’s sister, Ada, in 1900.
Richter has been described as being responsible for starting the fruit industry in the Similkameen Valley and he had a major orchard operation.
Tweddle: Haliburton “Harry” Tweddle (1876-1957) married Florence Elizabeth Richter (née Loudon, F.X. Richter’s second wife and widow) in 1912. They had 4 children: Haliburton T. (Hal), Margaret, Eileen, and Willa.
Harry Tweddle owned the Central Hotel in Keremeos, B.C., and operated a ranch, livery stable and stage line serving the Similkameen Valley.
Hal Tweddle married Alice Brent. Certain currents of Brent family documentation are seen in this collection. See also the Brent family collection.

Scope and content
Subseries consists of photographic and textual documentation of the F.X. Richter and later Halliburton Tweddle families in the South Okanagan and Similkameen regions. Photographic subject matter treats themes of ranching and orcharding; textual records include copies of correspondence, wills, family trees.

Subseries consists of various studies, surveys, and news clipping associated with the Skagit Valley in general and the ROSS Dam project as well as several printed testimony logs and accompanying exhibits related to the R.O.S.S. Committee.

Extensive student notes are also included.

Sub-series consists of materials related to den Hertog’s service on the Royal Commission for Electoral Reform. The Commission’s mandate was to inquire into and to report on the appropriate principles and process that should govern the election of Members of the House of Commons and the financing of political parties and of candidates’ campaigns, including, but not limited to the practices, procedures and legislation in Canada; the means by which political parties should be funded; and the qualification of electors and the compiling of voters’ lists. Records consist of conference materials related to the Symposium on the Active Participation of Women in Politics as well as research for and drafts of den Hertog’s presentation to the Symposium Electoral Reform Commission entitled “Election Financing – the core of an equitable electoral system.” Also included are conference materials from the Royal Commission on Electoral Reform and Party Financing’s Research Seminar on Election and Party Financing.

Sub-series contains records relating to the Canadian Pulp and Paper Association’s Safety Committee. Material consists of meeting minutes that outline the relevant safety conferences, reports, correspondence, and the discussion of projects relating to safety in the industry.

Subseries comprises the deliberate collecting activity of Ed Villiers and provides documentation of approximately one century of Savona history, which is today west of Kamloops on the shore of Kamloops Lake where the Thompson River has its egress. Originally, Savona was situated on the north shore of Kamloops Lake and represented the terminus of the stage coach line from Cache Creek on the Cariboo Wagon Road. It was also the site of a lake steamboat harbor which carried goods and passengers toward the Shuswap. As rail service was developed on the south shore of Kamloops lake, the decision was made to relocate the town in the 1880s- the relocation was executed by mechanism of pulling structures across the frozen lake during the winter.
Subseries features in large part copied tear sheets of other historical sources, as well as original manuscripts prepared by Ed Villiers for the Savona Community Heritage Committee. Other records include census documents, town directories and other documentation.

Subseries consists of drafts, essays, examination materials, notes, clippings, correspondence, memos, invitations, minutes, memorandum, newspapers, agendas, pamphlets, note cards, reports, plans, and maps, relating to H. Peter Oberlander’s professional contribution to the UBC School of Community and Regional Planning (SCARP).

Subsubseries consists mainly of records of twenty students from Prince Rupert General Hospital and Kelowna General Hospital. Information includes completed application forms, results of medical examinations, student transcripts, evaluations by instructors, reports on students, records of practical procedures performed, reference forms, correspondence, and tuition receipts.

Other material includes a photograph of nurses graduating from the Prince Rupert or Kelowna Hospital, an outline of lectures in ethics, and a nurses’ record book. The latter includes names of nurses, date admitted, information on days worked, and sick leave.

The B.C. History of Nursing Scholarship fund was established to provide financial support to nurses registered within B.C. who are pursuing studies in the History of Nursing, or who are carrying out a history of nursing project.

Subseries includes correspondence, scholarship application forms, application materials, the scholarship trust document, minutes, reports and other records pertaining to the selection of Nursing History Scholarship recipients.

Subseries consists of various publications, journals and magazines published by the UBC School of Nursing. Includes UBC Nursing Today, Nursing Beat and other related materials.

Within the subseries, projects are arranged alphabetically by school district and school and then in chronological order.
Of the architectural drawings, 20 from Shawnigan Lake Boys School are from the 1990 accession and are described separately.

This subseries is Brown's personal scrapbook. Originally contained in a three-ring binder with tabbed dividers, each divided section has been made its own file. The materials have been removed from the original plastic page protectors, and clipped together where multiple items appeared on one page. Originally there was also a divider labeled "1958," but this section was empty.

Some materials have Bawden's notes showing they were originally filed elsewhere.
