Audiovisual Material series

This series consists of a radio review of The Listeners (novel) on CBC's Afternoon Show in the 1980s. Also present is a recording of the essay Monitor and the poem 11 Mexican Crows by the German band Shebang. The VHS tape is a recording of George McWhirter receiving the Ethel Wilson Prize for Fiction in 1988. Finally, the DVD present is a recording of poems read in celebration of Gabriela Mistral at Vancouver Public Library in April 2007. Audiotapes can also be found in the Correspondence, Miscellaneous and Radio Play Series; 14-7, 14-8, 16-19 to 16-25 and 17-36.

Audio-visual materials.

Series contains audio-visual material relating to the Council of Forest Industries. Material consists of audio reels, video cassettes, film reels, and cassette tapes that document different types of trees, health and safety procedures during forestry operations, and promotional material regarding forestry and lumber.

The series consists of two films on three 16 mm film reels. The films were owned by Nakayama and one, “The Tides of War,” was a documentary produced by Global TV which incorporated 16 mm film taken by Nakayama before and after World War II. The second film, “Living Treasures of Japan,” focuses on 70 of Japans master artisans and performers.

Series consists of audiocassette tapes of the CBC radio shows “Dr. David Suzuki’s Discovery” and “Equinox.” Tapes average 15-25 minutes in length and include weekday and weekend editions of the shows, which cover various topics in the sciences and humanities. This series also includes several Betacam videocassettes of the CBC show “The Nature of Things” starring Suzuki. The average run time is between 45 and 55 minutes.

Series consists of seven sound recordings and two videotapes. The audiotapes include lectures by Daniells, practice tape, radio broadcasts, and an interview. One videotape is a copy of a filmed CBC interview of Ethel Wilson by Daniells. The other is a copy of a film made in 1949-50 by students of Daniells who asked him to read the script.

The video tapes, particularly "Sam Black: Surface Flows," "Art Explorations A Workshop with Sam Black," and "Shared Visions," provide exciting insights into Black's philosophy about art. The super 8mm film is labelled "Sam Black" and "Schools and London Trip 19th April-21st May 1972".

The series consists of audio recordings and films, presumably taken by Alan Sawyer or others working with him. The audio recordings are on reel-to-reel tapes (10 7” reels and 4 5” reels) and include recordings of lectures and discussions. The films are on “Super 8 mm” film and depict scenes in Mexico and South America. These materials were acquired in 2018 and 2021.

In addition, there are audio and visual records from her 2003/2004 performance of Song of this Place at the Frederic Wood Theatre, two CBC television programs, a demo reel, a promotional video of the Courage to Dream production, and three audio recordings of poetry, short stories, and a 1995 production of the Noah's Ark opera. Included from the 2017 accession are recordings of TV coverage of Song Of This Place, audio recordings about Song Of This Place, and a DVD recording of Joy's son Gordon Thorne accepting a Gemini Award on her behalf.

Series consists of records created or acquired by the TRIUMF Audit Committee and includes meeting minutes, agendas, and reports. The records are arranged in chronological order. Some files include records from the Finance Committee (1986-1990).

Authorship

Series contains material related to a draft autobiography and to several planned but never completed biographies. Correspondence includes communications with publishers and discussions with numerous writers regarding the content of their writings and source material.
A notepad, handwritten in the 2000’s by Dosanjh, provides a draft of an unpublished autobiography. Proposed titles include, “My Experiments with Exile,” and “Crisis of Conscience.” Communications with publishers regarding the autobiography are included.
Material related to several unpublished biographies, form bulk of the series. Correspondence with two authors, Lisa Crawford and Shari Graydon, are extensive. The latter provided Donsanjh with numerous drafts, outlines, timelines, and questionnaires, to gather source material and feedback. The drafts contain many of Dosnajh’s personal corrections and revisions.
Also included in the series are source materials in the form of historical newspaper clippings and early advocacy writings related to the life of Dosanjh.

Auto/biographical Writing series

The series consists of manuscripts, correspondence, organization notes, and records related to works that contain fragments of auto/biographical writing authored by New. Works represented in this series include “Glimpses: Shadow, Pool” in Celebrating the Life and Work of Janet Frame (1994) and “Writing Here” in BC Studies (2005).

Autobiographies series

Series consists of typed manuscripts for Harry Adaskin's autobiographies A Fiddler's World and A Fiddler's Choice. The first three chapters are typed in French, and the remainder is handwritten or typed in English. Included is the first chapter of a proposed third volume, dated 1 November 1988, which was never published. Also included are annotated copies of Adaskin's two autobiographies.

Autobiography series

The series consists of edited and revised drafts and correspondence for Patricia Carney's autobiography, Trade Secrets: A Memoir (2000). The 2011 accrual was minimally reordered on the series and file-level to match the arrangement of the previous archivist. The original order of items and file titles were preserved when possible. This series contains drafts of Carney's autobiography, correspondence and media reactions to the book. Carney accredited the photographers and textual contributors in Photographs, Endnotes, and Bibliography files. Large portions of Carney's research for the book have been salvaged. And publishing touring correspondence with Key Porter, the publishing company, is also included. Finally, publicity and media surrounding the book launch and readers' reactions to the autobiography are present.

Autographed Photograph series

Series consists of signed photographs of musicians dedicated to Harry and Frances Adaskin. Notable musicians include Igor Stravinsky, Jascha Heifetz, Jean Coulthard and Barbara Pentland.

Awards

Series consists of documentation of the award nominations and award receipts of Peter Carl Anderson. Awards include the Jessie Richardson Theatre Awards (“Jessies”) and the Hopwood Awards, among others. Records include clippings, tearsheets, application forms, and general awards dockets.

Series consists of records relating to Dr. Ford’s medical and non-medical accomplishments. Records include all of her medical degrees, diplomas, and certificates documenting her medical progression from 1948-1979; her degrees include a Bachelor of Medicine, a Bachelor of Surgery, a Diploma in Obstetrics, and a Diploma in Child Health. She has been honoured with many awards and recognitions over the years, most prominently her appointment as a Member of the Order of Canada in 1991. Series also includes her non-medical accomplishments in various certificates and awards.

Series includes certificates, programs and letters of congratulations, and plaques for various awards (including the Order of Canada and Simon Fraser University Alumni award) and honours bestowed upon Miki.

Series consists of materials that document awards, honorary degrees, and other forms of recognition received by Schlesinger during his life and include original certificates, citations, and ceremonial programmes. Files are maintained in chronological order.
Some certificates were removed from their frames during processing.

This small series consists of curriculum vitae, certificates of recognition, correspondence regarding the visiting Seagram Chair and contracts, letters, award notifications and sales reports for Making Vancouver. The object included is the UBC Killam Teaching Prize Award.

Series consists of clippings, publications, cartoons, and a scrapbook collected by MacKay about the Axis powers during World War II. Series also includes an unidentified diary (1882) found by MacKay in 1931 in an abandoned building in Iceberg Bay, B.C
