SEPC communications committee

Contains pre-election planning materials, correspondence, meeting minutes, drafts, and advertising proposals from various firms that the NDP considered engaging for its public communications. File created by Hans Brown when he was the Chair of the Communications subcommittee of SEPC.

Search warrants

Contains 8 RCMP search warrants and one "Information to Obtain a Search Warrant" issued March 19, 1996; one search warrant issued February 9, 1993; and one issued October 10, 1995.

Sam Wagar

Contains correspondence, clippings, memos, court documents, and other related material concerning Samuel Wagar, an NDP candidate in the 1994 Matsqui by-election.

Wagar failed to disclose his status as a highly visible member of the Wicaan community to the constituency executive prior to his nomination in January 1994, and when the media quickly began running stories on the subject, the executive, in consultation with Wagar, agreed to hold a second nomination convention. At the second nomination, Wagar was defeated by fomer federal NDP candidate Lynn Fairall by two votes. Following a quickly escalating series of public and private exchanges with the NDP, Wagar brought a complaint to the BC Council of Human Rights, against the BC NDP, the Matsqui New Democratic Party Constituency Association, Mike Harcourt (Party leader) , and Keith Reynolds (Provincial Secretary).

This file documents some of the correspondence and related items exchanged shortly after the second nomination convention in Matsqui.
