Wood newel post from the Empress of Japan, launched in 1890 by the Naval Construction and Armaments Company of Barrow, England. Turned, fluted and carved with acanthus leaves and topped with a carved stylized chrysanthemum for a knob. One newel post is currently on display in the Chung room

Souvenir was cut from the end piece of the final sawn rail after the ceremony - part of the newly laid rail that the train full of dignitaries passed over and on through the mountains for the first time to Port Moody :"All aboard for the Pacific!"
