[World Travel Photo Album]

A photo album documenting the world travels of a Canadian family. They appear to have spent time living in Ontario as well as British Columbia, and travelled extensively. The photos are well captioned and dated, and often include individual names. The album and photos are still in generally good shape.

An album of photographs from an unknown family. A few of the photos are identifiably in British Columbia or Alberta, but the location of the rest are unknown. It also includes a poem cut out of a magazine, "Be Here for Me" by Bonnie E. Parker (likely Bonnie Parker of Bonnie and Clyde fame).

The Vanishing Race, The Long Headed Indian of the West Coast of BC

An album of photographs believed to be in British Columbia, including landscape images as well as a number of portraits of Aboriginal peoples, many hand-coloured. Only the photos on the right-hand pages are signed by Ben William Leeson (as B.W. Leeson). It is possible that an unknown individual added their snapshots on the facing pages to a book of Lesson images.

A book about Vancouver, designed as a souvenir and an “example of the art of printing”. This volume is labelled book 321 out of a presumably limited number. There is a short introduction, and then there are the large photographs from throughout Greater Vancouver with captions.

[Barkerville & BC Photographs]

Album likely assembled at a later date by a dealer, however many are related to Barkerville, British Columbia, and a fire that destroyed the town in September of 1868. There are also other assorted images including portraits of prominent British Columbians such as James Douglas, and scenes in other small towns throughout the province. Most of the photographs are reproductions from images at the B.C. Provincial Archives and date from 1857 to 1930.

An album of photographs, some credited to L. Madeleine or Holliday (Charles William Holliday) and the remainder are snapshots, most of which are captioned. The images depict scenes throughout Canada, with an emphasis on Quebec. The album is in excellent shape, though many of the snapshots are badly faded.

Vancouver Harbour Commissioners Subway

An album of photographs depicting the construction of a train tunnel in North Vancouver in 1928, as well as what seems to be the grand opening. It also includes some plans for the route and a drawing of a streetcar. The names Frith, H.W. (Chief Engineer) & Anderson, F.W. (Resident Engineer) appear on the cover.

Construction of Big Bend Highway (West Leg)

The album documents the construction of the so-called ‘Big Bend’ Highway (West Leg) north of Revelstoke, B.C., now a part of Highway 23, between 1934 and 1936. The photos consist of scenery along the way, work being completed, machinery, bridges, landslides, workers camps, and photos of F.W. Anderson and other workers, as well as photos of two separate car accidents, and of a ‘snow slide’ at Clanwilliam Camp, and of the ‘West Coast Trail’ on Vancouver Island. After the bulk of the photos there is a blank page and then a new grouping of images with a title page that reads: “Odd Snaps Collected by F.W.A. While Foreman & Asst. Engr. Group F. D.N.D.-U.E.R. Big Bend Highway Group H.Q. at Revelstoke B.C. Sept 20/34 to Mar 20/35”.

Our Trip

Album of personal photographs documenting a family trip to Texas. On the cover is a colour image of oxen pulling a cart, with the pre-printed title "Our Trip". In the inside front cover is hand-written "My trip, with brother Ernest & Marion and Patsy. July & Aug. 1953, to Texas". The leather album is still in good shape, though some of the photos are fading and warping.

Snapshots Victoria B.C.

A photo album from a British Columbian woman known only as K.B.S. Predominantly family snapshots, as well as photos of travels throughout British Columbia, including Salt Spring Island, Shawnigan Lake, and Victoria. The cover of the leather album is adorned with an image of an Aboriginal chief and a simple landscape. Photos and album are still in good condition. The first large number of images are captioned, but towards the end most are not.

[B.W. Leeson Mining Photos]

An album containing photographs of mining settlements and workers in and around Alice Lake B.C. Many signed by B.W. Leeson, but there are also a few are unsigned. The album itself is stamped E.L. Sullivan on the front cover, and has a plastic coil binding; the photographs are glued to the page.
