Caption attached to photo: "View of East Lillooet Japanese Settlement during W.W.II Started in May 1942 to house the self supporting Evacuees, on 40 acres leased property. 63 houses were built to accommodate 300 people. Foreground was turned into vegetable gardens. Water was pumped from Fraser River and carried by wooden flume. School house was located at far end of settlement."
