The fonds reflects the efforts of Bob Williams’ political and business career. Records in the fonds relate to Williams’s various roles: teacher, M.L.A., community planning consultant, Minister, chair of ICBC, and Secretary of Crown Corporations. As such, the records relate both to Williams’ personal career as well as British Columbia's governmental systems of resource management, transportation, forestry, energy, housing, and recreation. Correspondence is featured throughout the fonds; other records types include reports, studies, speeches, notes, legal agreements, bills, acts, notebooks, daily journals, travel memorabilia, presentation materials, photographs, VHS tapes, audio cassettes, optical discs, news clippings, scrapbooks, and transcripts of interviews. The fonds is comprised of four series; Alderman and Member of Legislative Assembly records, Ministry of Forests, Lands, and Water Resources Records series, Crown Corporations Records series, and Business, Personal, and Academic Records series.

The Alderman and Member of Legislative Assembly Records consists of material related to Williams' roles as Alderman of the City of Vancouver and later as M.L.A. for East Vancouver. Records include letters, faxes, telegrams, newspaper clippings, reports, speeches, notes and other related material.

The Ministry of Forests Lands and Water Resources Records series relates to Williams's time spent on the provincial cabinet working under the government of Dave Barret. Records consist primarily of correspondence, especially between Williams and major corporations and individuals in the forest industry. Other records include reports, studies, news clippings, bills and acts, speeches, presentation materials, and transcripts.

The Crown Corporations records series is comprised of documents stemming from Williams' activities as chair of ICBC, and his work in the Crown Corporations. Many records relate to the construction of Surrey City Centre. Record types include correspondence, reports, legal documents, and news clippings.

The Business, Personal and Academic Records series contains records related Williams’ business career, personal memories and diaries, pictures and travel memorabilia, and his experiences meeting other politicians. Record types include planning consultant studies, correspondence, interviews, and materials from his academic career including course outlines and reading lists.

Alderman and Member of Legislative Assembly records

The series consists of records created and received during Williams' position as Alderman for the City of Vancouver, and as a Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) from 1966-1975, and from 1984 to 1992. Records in the series relate to the local political issues of the time including those of affordable housing, and use of natural resources and public lands. Many records are also related to the New Democratic Party, of which Williams was a member, and include election and endorsement material. Record types in the series include correspondence, articles, subject files, speeches, notes and related material.

[Notes, financial records, and correspondence]

File contains notes on meeting Sir Norman Manley, the Prime Minister of Jamaica, MLA Vancouver Financial statements, a letter from New Democratic Party (NDP) secretary Betty McClurg with enclosed report on possibility of the NDP entering municipal politics, and correspondence to and from Williams with his constituents and predecessor Arthur J. Evans.

Members of Legislative Assembly Caucus

File contains notes regarding Premier Bennett, incoming correspondence to Williams, addresses of N.D.P. Members of the Legislature, minutes of the New Democratic Party Caucus meetings, notes on the Boag foundation fund, a news article from The Province, July 21 1967 regarding rights for 18 year-olds, and other related notes.

[Newsclippings]

File contains two news-clippings on Williams' return as an MLA; one from the Vancouver Sun dated May 15 1985, the other from the Times-Colonist dated September 12 1986.

[Notes, reports, and publication]

File contains notes on the ICBC location question, notes on unidentified seminar, a copy of The ICBC Inside Story, and reports compiled under the Environment and Land Use Committee directive analysing the location of ICBC headquarters.

[Issue of Canadian Pulp and Paper magazine and note]

File contains a single issue of Canadian Pulp and Paper Industry magazine dated May 1974 and attached note to file the issue under RA Williams personal. An article is contained in the magazine entitled 'Task Force Report... Resource Minister Williams shakes up B.C.'s Big Five'.

[Saskatchewan forest products annual reports, notes, and other material]

File consists of two annual reports created by Saskatchewan Forest Products, dated 1971 and 1975, handwritten notes by Williams and other material including a copy of an article entitled 'KFP -- The Look of the Future?' by Eleanor Walker, published in Hiballer, March 1976; a report by Williams on the Saskatchewan Forest Products Study addressed to W.C.R. Jones; and an annotated photocopy of various portions of The Other Economy by Roger G. Krohn, Berkeley Fleming and Marilyn Manzer.
