British Columbia Women's Institute fonds

Fonds consists of records created and received by the British Columbia Women’s Institute and its constituents and relate to the work done by members of the BCWI at the provincial level as well as its various local chapters. Records in this fonds consist predominantly of administrative records as well as the compiled research materials pertaining to the Women’s Institutes and notable figures within.

The fonds also includes documentation of the BCWI’s intersections with the FWIC and the ACWW. Fonds is arranged into five series: 1) Federated Women’s Institutes of Canada (FWIC); 2) Associated Countrywomen of the World (ACWW); 3) British Columbia Women’s Institutes (BCWI); 4) BCWI Districts; 5) Research files.

Federated W.I.

File contains newspaper clippings, pamphlets, brochures, correspondence, convention programs, by-laws, a press release, a songbook, brief histories and an address given at the 1982 FWIC convention, a brief history of the BCWI, a brief history of Japanese Canadians, and biographies for Japanese Canadian members of the BCWI.

[Photo album]

File contains a photo album with photos taken across Canada, with many focusing on a conference from 1988 in Newfoundland. There are also tourist pamphlets within the album.

[Miscellaneous]

File contains a copy of A Century of Achievement, a program from the 1994 Federated Women's Institutes of Canada (FWIC) Convention, and a listing of the B.C. Women's Institute branch files.

Women's Institute

File contains a booklet on Laws for Women and Children in British Columbia and an invitation from Parks Canada and the Historic Sites and Monuments Board to the unveiling of a plaque commemorating Margaret Watt.

BCWI

File contains assorted materials related to the BCWI at the provincial level, including photographs, reports, newspaper clippings and programs.

Misc

File contains pamphlets, comments from the 2009 annual general meeting, an essay on the future of the BCWI, a report on the organization of Women's Institutes, and the schedule, summary, and report on the �Agriculture in the Classroom� program.

[Advocacy]

File contains a letter �Concerning Women under the Law� and a position paper from the BCWI to the Fraser Committee on Pornography.

Stamp

File contains documents such as articles and a newspaper clipping pertaining to stamps that mark the 100th anniversary for the ACWW.

Chain Gang

File contains list of address of those in the Chain Gang (listed as former provincial board members) and letters with updates on the BCWI sent out to the Chain Gang.
