Documentary subseries

Subseries includes outlines and related correspondence for the proposed documentary series “The History of Philosophy with Colin Wilson.”

Distance and Continuing Education

Continuing education was accepted in the Health Sciences in 1968. The
Department of Continuing Medical Education had been established in the Faculty of Medicine in 1960, as the need for graduates to stay abreast of new developments was recognized.

Subseries consists of records related to the offering of nursing courses and
programs outside the regular program at UBC, often in a non-traditional manner.

Directors of Nursing of Lower Mainland Hospitals

Beginning in 1964 Directors of Nursing from the Lower Mainland Hospitals met four times a year to discuss common concerns. Mrs. Lillies was key in the early organization. “Topics discussed at meetings included evaluation of personnel, staff orientation, role and licensing of practical nurses, education of clinical nurse specialists and principles and methods of nursing research”.

Subseries consists of one file of minutes of three meetings from 1964-1967 and other material, including a history of the organization from 1964 to 1979.

Directors meetings.

Sub-series contains meeting minutes from the British Columbia Loggers Association Directors committee. Materials consists of ledger books with meeting minutes pasted inside, which document the core functions and forestry, more specifically logging, related issues, their follow-up and consultation with other interested organizations. Also included are meeting minutes that discuss the Association’s finances, reports from various organizations including the Council of Forest Industries, and a discussion of topics including Timber Land Assessment procedures, stumpages, publicity, and forest fire protection.

Sub-series contain minutes related to director meetings of the British Columbia Lumber Manufacturers Association. Material consists of meeting minutes describing committee reports, applications for membership, highlights important correspondence between individuals and the BCLMA, and discusses subjects such as the U.K. Timber Development Association, timber control, and trade extension.

Sub-series consist of Directors meetings minutes from the Consolidated Red Cedar and Shingle Association of British Columbia. Material contains four ledger books of meeting minutes documenting the committee’s decisions, and includes division reports, the organizations functions and activities, and daily business.

Diploma Articulation Committee

The membership of the committee is comprised of representatives from nursing programs in colleges, universities and hospitals. This committee provided a forum for the exchange of information on common problems in different institutions and identified the needs and opportunities for ongoing development. It may advise the Academic Council regarding the equivalency of courses given at one institution or university as compared to courses given at another institution or university. Because of budget constraints and the similarity of the work of this committee to the Nursing Education Council, it appears to have been disbanded in about 1983.

Subseries consists of minutes, correspondence and reports.

Diaries

Sub-series consists of Trutch's daily diaries for the years 1870, 1897, 1902, and 1906 . Diaries include notations pertaining to his appointments and activities, financial transactions, correspondence, and the weather.

Development Office subseries

Subseries consists of an organization chart, job descriptions, resumes, budgets, policies, work plans, protocols, case statements, outlines, and performance review forms.

Degrees and Awards subseries

Sub-series consists of materials relating to degrees or awards given to Oberlander. Titles for these include Order of Canada, an Honorary Doctorate from UBC and the Queen’s Golden Jubilee Medal among others.

Dean’s Office Education Subject subseries

Subseries consist of documents about specific types of education. These documents have been retained in their subseries as they were organized differently than the other documents. Relating primarily to the dates of the Deanship of Dean J.M. Andrews, these documents were unique within the fonds in that they were organized alphabetically, labelled with capital letters, and housed in legal-sized folders. They pertain specifically to different types of education, such as “Art Education,” “Counselling Psychology,” and “Reading Education,” and include records from 1971-1980. The documents include letters, and memos addressed to and from Dean Neville Scarfe, Dean John H. M. Andrews, and Acting Dean Roy Bentley during their respective roles as Dean or Acting Dean of the Faculty of Education during the 1970s and into 1980.

Day Planners

Consist of Rosemary’s day planners, ‘While you are out’ appointment forms and to-do lists.

DA Architects and Planners subseries

Sub Series consists of correspondence, reports, travel records presentation notes, architect portfolios and a contract related to Oberlander’s time as an Associate Planner with DA Architects & Planners in Vancouver.

Curriculum Committee

Reporting to the Nursing Education Council, this committee was formed to encourage evaluation of the effectiveness with which nursing graduates of nursing programs meet the employers’ expectations.

Subseries consists of one folder of minutes, correspondence and reports.

Curatorial subseries

Artefact loan forms, photographs, meeting minutes, planning documents, correspondence, and exhibition ephemera. Files are mainly organized by institution. For materials regarding associated publications, see also: publishing & conference writing subseries.

Curator files, pre-1987

Subseries documents the curator files of Arni Runar Haraldsson, Director/Curator of the Or Gallery from November 1984 to December 1985, and James Graham, Director/Curator of the Or Gallery from January to October 1986.

Subseries consists of photographs created or acquired by Crown Zellerbach Canada Ltd. This aggregation consists of photographs concerning the former S.M. Simpson Ltd. mills as well as other mills purchased by Crown Zellerbach Canada at the same time.

Crown Zellerbach Canada (Southern Interior Wood Products) Operations Files

Subseries consists of partial documentation of the substantial forestry, logging, and sawmill operations conducted by Crown Zellerbach Canada (Southern Interior Wood Products) during the 1960s through 1980s. Predominantly, this subseries is comprised of prepared reports, prospectuses, industrial profiles, and descriptions of assets, work processes, and mill specifications.

Crown Zellerbach Canada (Southern Interior Wood Products) Labour Relations

Subseries consists of documentation of Crown Zellerbach Canada’s interactions with its workers, as well as their labour union, the International Woodworkers’ Association.
Subseries contains primary instance documents including forms (blank and completed), collective agreements, meeting minutes, seniority lists, job categorization lists, correspondence, committee rosters, contracts, bulletins, etc.

Criteria Evaluation of Faculty Committee

This standing committee reviewed and developed criteria for the appointment, evaluation and progression of faculty, including the award and distribution of merit increases.

Subseries consists of minutes of meetings and some forms for the evaluation of faculty.

Court documents

Sub-series consists of manuscripts written by Belcher in defence of charges laid against him with respect to his naval command. Includes an original and a transcript copy of a defence prepared by Belcher against charges of tyranny and severe treatment of his men during his service as Captain of the HMS Sulpher and related documents. Series also includes an original copy of a statement of defence written by Belcher when he was courtmartialled for abandoning ships under his command during the Franklin expedition in 1854.

Courses subseries

Subseries consists of teaching materials for courses taught by the Division of Industrial Education. The files include curriculum, lesson plans, course content, technical drawings, students’ assignments and marks, and notes. The subseries has been re-organized roughly in chronological order.

Course Materials subseries

Subseries consists of notes, outlines, handouts, bibliographies, articles, tests and assignments of the different courses taught by Messenger in the English Department as an Instructor and Associate Professor.

Subseries consists of guidelines, programs of study in adult education, surveys, course evaluations, and grade sheets about courses taught by Verner at UBC. Subseries includes materials dealing with courses at the University of Virginia, the University of Florida, and Columbia University, where Verner taught before coming to UBC. Subseries is arranged in chronological order.

Course Materials

Subseries consists of records dating from 1973 to 2011. Materials include articles, study guides and booklets. 1 DVD and 2 CD-R are included containing interviews performed for course teaching.

Council of Forest Industries members and presidents.

Sub-series contains photographs of Council of Forest Industries presidents and members. Photographed individuals include: J.A. Humbird, J.O. Cameron, F.R. Pendleton, J.D. McCormack, Aird Flavelle, R. Coulthard-Poston Correspondence sub-series

Sub-series consists of correspondence between Elizabeth Poston and Jean Coulthard recording their friendship and shared professional interests; sub-series also include a copy of "Elizabeth Poston Post-Centenary 2005 Appreciation," which discusses Poston's friendship and correspondence with Coulthard throughout the years. Sub-series are arranged chronologically.

Costumes

Sheila Zerr extended her interest in dolls to the creation of costumes for adults. These were often modelled by Sheila Zerr and others at nursing events, and mounted as exhibits.

Correspondent-specific correspondence

Sub-series consists of correspondence with employees, book publishers and distributors, government granting agencies, literary reviews and businesses as well as correspondence about particular subjects.

Correspondence with family

Subseries consists of correspondence to Hanne from Hedwig Herrmann (her mother), Elizabeth Fischer (her sister), and Peter and Fritz Fischer (her nephews). There is also correspondence from Ilse, Peter’s wife.

Correspondence with Carol Shields

The subseries consists of email and traditional correspondence between Blanche Howard and Carol Shields, as well as related correspondence and ephemera from 1974-2006. The correspondence between Howard and Shields deals with subjects such as the respective writing careers of the correspondents, literature, and personal and family goings-on. The subseries also contains correspondence between Howard and other members of the Shields family, including Carol’s husband Don Shields, and daughters Anne Giardini and Sara Cassidy. The subseries also contains correspondence between Carol Shields and Bruce Howard. The subseries also includes some correspondence related to the publication of the book “A Memoir of Friendship.” Ephemera in the subseries consists of newspaper and magazine clippings regarding Shields, including reviews, articles about awards and honours, and obituaries and tributes.

Correspondence subseries

Subseries consists of letters to and from map curators and librarians in universities and museums and rare book dealers and antiquarians in England, the U.S. and Canada. In addition, the subseries includes some manuscript material. Subseries is arranged in alphabetical order by the publication title.
