Empress of Russia and its service as an ocean liner, an armed merchant cruiser in the First World War and as a war transport ship in the Second World War. The album also includes a news clippings concerning the fire that destroyed the ship, a photograph of the ship on fire, and a photograph of the ship after the fire.

Album consists of photographs from Western Canada, but primarily of scenes and people in Gleichen, Alberta. The album has photographs of C.P.R. railroad locomotives and stations. The creator of the album is unidentified although he identifies family members in a number of photographs and was perhaps a C.P.R. employee or was a relative of C.P.R. employees.
