The Reg Innell Collection of Shelleyana consists of ephemera related to Percy Bysshe Shelley, one of the major English Romantic poets, collected over many years. Materials include scrapbooks, a photograph album, prints, newspaper clippings, postcards, letters and a medallion bearing Shelley’s image.

Outgoing correspondence

Sub-series consists of Belcher’s outgoing correspondence, including letters written to his brother and sister-in-law, Alexander Brymer and Maria Belcher, and to John Philippart, two copy books covering the years 1831 to 1833 and 1837 to 1841, and several memos. Includes transcript copies of some of the letters.

The collection consists of a letter from Sir John Franklin, Great Bear Lake, to Robert McVicar, 1826; a telegram from S.L. Tilley to Hon. Dr. Helmcken, April 1, 1871, referring to the admittance of British Columbia into Confederation, a document signed by Charles Dupont referring to a land transaction to what is now known as Vancouver, and an invitation to the opening of the new Parliament Buildings in Victoria, 1898.

[Donald McLaren estate documents]

File contains financial documents related to the estate of the late Donald McLaren of which John McLennan (1789-1866) was executor. Documents include account balance sheets, an indenture for the lease of land, and promissory notes and receipts of payments received.

Sir John Ross, the Arctic explorer, estimates of expedition for discovery of North West Passage and autograph letter

3 Feb. 1828 - Sir John Ross, Arctic explorer, to "Dear Sir" expressing his pleasure that he is to be introduced by him at the Royal Society .

Oct. 1828 - Estimate in another hand of the costs of an expedition under Ross using the steam boat Hero with a crew of forty men and a dozen passengers.

Incoming correspondence

Sub-series consists of correspondence of a personal and a business nature, and includes letters received by Belcher from Buxendale, Tatham, Upton & Johnson, A.W. King, and M. Wilson.

[King's Bench case documents]

The file contains legal documents related to King's Bench cases. Documents include extracts of the burials of Thomas Peck and Gabriel Christie and a declaration of Tiers-Saisis (garnishees) in a case between Ebenezer Baird and William Douglas.

[Land sale agreements]

File contains land sale agreements for properties in Glengarry County, Ontario. Parties to the agreements include Dougald Cameron and Allan Morrison; Michael Duncan and John and Mary Hart; Malcolm McKellep and William McLennan; Walter and Moses Sutherland and John McBean; and Samuel Falkner and James Falkner. Many of the documents are witnesses by conveyancer John McLennan (1789-1866).

Alexander Brymer Belcher correspondence

Series consists of correspondence of Edward Belcher’s brother Alexander Brymer Belcher of London, England and is arranged in two sub-series: incoming correspondence and outgoing correspondence.

[Edward Vennor journal and memoranda book]

File contains a journal and memoranda book belonging to Edward Vennor. Vennor was a provincial customs clerk in Montreal and was married to Harriet Ann Hall. The book contains memoranda of letters received from England; addresses of family and acquaintances; a diary of a sea voyage from Portsmouth; various account balances for the years 1838-1864; assorted memoranda; and notes on the weather and temperature in August 1873. A number of items are interleaved throughout the journal, including a copy of the 1844 annual report of the British American Land Company; a 1838 list of special councillors present at an unknown meeting; lists of expenses; notes; loose account balance sheets; and a Montreal City & District Savings Bank deposit book dating 1882-1884.

Personal documents

Sub-series consists of a document appointing Belcher Commander of the HMSV Aetna in 1830 and a certificate granting Belcher an honourary membership in the Royal Halifax Yacht Club.
