Susan Lushington letters

Series consists of letters written by Arthur Hughes to Susan Lushington between 1898 and 1915, primarily between 1912 and 1915. Lushington's father was a patron of Hughes, and Susan herself purchased paintings from Hughes as an adult. Hughes also painted Susan with her sisters and mothers in 1884 ("The Home Quartette."). In his letters to Susan, Hughes writes about his paintings and illustrations and day-to-day life including visitors, correspondents and weather. The letters have been arranged by month and year into files by the archivist.

Sheet music and lyrics

Series consists of music and lyrics hand-copied by the Fuller sisters, including lyrics to folk songs interspersed with notes and observations about folk music history and observations from their tours; manuscript sheet music for folk songs, including “When Adam was first created,” “The twelve days of Christmas,” “Katy cruel, “Johnny, the miller,” “Blow, ye winds, blow,” and others; and sheet music broadsides printed and sold by the Fullers with illustrations by Dorothy, printed at the De Vinne Press and issued by the H.W. Gray Company in New York, including “Mowing the barley,” “My man John,” “The wraggle-taggle Gypsies, o!”, “Brixham town,” and “The keeper.” Two copies of “Brixham town” are hand-coloured. Documents are arranged into files according to type of document.

Personal correspondence

Series consists of correspondence received by E. Tilford Fenton, which includes incoming personal letters that are mostly written from acquaintances in the U.S. One of the acquaintances requests information regarding land pre-emption. Series are arranged into two files: Undated personal correspondence; personal correspondence.

Correspondence

Series consists chiefly of letters between Milnor Roberts and interested parties
concerning the development of Graham Island coal fields.

Reports

Photographs series

The series consists of photographs of Frank F. Wesbrook, family members, and other associates. They include both black and white prints and negatives of various dimensions.

Reco Mining & Milling Company Limited records

This series includes documents of incorporation, elevation plans (and plans for a diversion dam on Carpenter Creek), insurance records, leases and contracts, general correspondence, correspondence relating to purchase offers, dividend receipts, records from stockholders meetings, payroll records and store accounts.
In addition, there are governmental documents such as mining and tax receipts and free miner’s certificates, and records relating to a claim dispute between Bain and the Reco Mining & Milling Co.

Correspondence series

Series consists of outgoing correspondence from Laura Holland to her mother from London and the boat of fellow nurses going to different camps during World War I. She talks mostly of her physical surroundings and sightseeing. She also speaks of people (family & friends) she knows back home (Mildred, Temple, Cyp (?), Harry, and Jack), but also sometimes speaks of privacy (censorship of letters, etc.) and other political conditions affecting the nurses during the war.

Photographs and drawings

Series consists of photographs of the Fuller siblings, and drawings and paintings by the Fuller siblings. Most drawings and paintings are unsigned, but may have been by Dorothy, who illustrated their printed broadsides. Depictions in drawings include medieval costumes, people, soldiers, and scenes from their travels; also included are a drawing and embroidery piece probably sent to the sisters by a young relative or
friend.

Business and concert documents

Series consists of documentation related to concerts and business matters, including documents such as contracts and receipts for business expenses such as printing and photography; concert documents such as reviews, playbills and programs; and requests for songs sent to the sisters. Documents are arranged into files according to
the form of document and topic.

W.H. White and D.V. White correspondence

Series is composed of incoming correspondence and drafts and originals of outgoing correspondence to and from William Hale White and/or Dorothy Vernon White. The large majority of files are W.H. White's incoming and outgoing correspondence . Correspondents include W.H. White's literary and other friends, communications with publishers, and with family members. Some files include correspondence with both W .H. White and D.V. White.

Reprints series

Series consists of a set of published off-prints relating to a variety of medical topics that Frank Wesbrook collected or, in some cases, wrote.

Formerly maintained in the Memorial Room of the Woodward Library, part of the collection was transferred to the University Archives in November 2013 and again in 2014 and added to the Frank Wesbrook fonds.

Diaries series

Series consists of diaries that provide information about Frank F. Wesbrook's activities in London in 1891 and his appointments as University President between April 1914 and February 1918.

Military series

Series consists of commonplace books, minutes, certificates, pamphlets, brochures, clippings, programs, notes, and a handbook about Logan's interest in and involvement with the Military. Also included are a button from the 72nd Seaforth Highlanders and an identification bracelet from the 4th Battalion Canadian Machine Gun Corps, Logan's World War I units.

Law and Legislation Documents

Series consists of documents relating to legislation and legal cases concerning the fisheries in British Columbia and Washington state.

Diaries and other Compilations series

Series consists of extracts from letters, manuscript notes, diaries, notebooks, and manuscripts compiled by various members of the Warren family. In addition, the series includes bound sketches by Henry Warrenne (contained within the binding is a clasp knife that belonged to Warrenne).

Letters from William Osler

The majority of the series consists of original letters sent by William Osler, while the remained are typed copies. The letters discuss various publications, doctoral appointments, and patient treatments.

Correspondence.

Series consists of letters sent and received by the Fuller siblings, mainly pertaining to singing engagements but also pertaining to personal matters. Letters sent from the sisters to Walter often include descriptions of cities and venues visited; letters received by the sisters or by Walter from external parties often offer praise or compliments for concerts given. One file contains correspondence between Walter and Mary Breck, a friend and manager of the sisters. One file of personal correspondence of Walter (1-8) also contains several personal documents relating to emigration to the United States and registration during war time. Documents are arranged into folders primarily according to the sender and/or receiver.

Photographs series

Series consists of photographs and negatives taken during Weisgarber’s time in Japan, during which he studied shakuhachi (vertical bamboo flute) playing and construction. Also featured in the images are some of the men Weisgarber studied, including Tanaka and Kotahara.The 2018 accessioning introduced photos of Elliot, his family, and friends.

Certificates series

The series consists of 4 oversized certificates, including Peebles’ diploma from UBC and photocopies of high school certificates and newspaper clippings.

Railway Systems and Policies

Series consists of letters, telegrams, memorandums and reports pertaining to the establishment of two major Canadian railway systems, the Canadian Northern Railway and the Grand Trunk Railway. This includes correspondence between Robert L. Borden and other Canadian politicians, engineers, bank managers and private citizens. The reports include such information as decisions regarding railway terminal locations and other route considerations, topography and physical conditions of the landscape, and mileage information.

Politics

Series consists of letters, telegrams and memorandums created and received by Robert L. Borden in the course of his activities as Prime Minister of Canada. This includes correspondence between Borden and other prominent Canadian politicians, both federal and provincial, letters between members of the clergy, and private citizens.

World War One

Series consists of letters, telegrams and memorandums pertaining to Canada’s involvement in World War One, and the way the Canadian government operated at this time. This includes correspondence primarily between Robert L. Borden and other politicians, Canadian and British.

Typed copies of original letters from Osler

Series contains correspondence sent by Sir William Osler to various recipients. The majority of the letters deal with Osler’s interest in book collecting, while others discuss possible position appointments. There is also a copy of <i>A physician’s anthology of English and American poetry</i>.

Registration Cards series

The series consists of student registration cards with names and personal information. The cards indicate the faculty of the student, their year, and the courses requested in each session.

Union Government

Series consists of letters, telegrams and memorandums pertaining to the establishment of the Union Government in Canada in 1917. This includes correspondence primarily between Robert L. Borden and other Canadian politicians, both federal and provincial.

Dr. George Albert McGuire series

Series consists of correspondence, text of speeches, memoranda, reports, photographs, and a scrapbook about the professional and personal activities of Dr. George Albert McGuire, Hunter Lewis' father-in-law. Correspondence is arranged chronologically and then alphabetically.

Account and Record Books

Series consists of an account book for the Mill Bay Cannery, 1905-1906, as well as books containing catch and packing records. Title based on contents of series.

British Columbia Packers' Association Records

Series consists ofrecords pertaining to the British Columbia Packers' Association and Doyle's involvement with the Association. Includes reports, statistics, correspondence, incorporation-related records, and directors' reports.

Offprints series

The series consists of offprints of published works by Schofield. Series includes an offprint by A.W. Grabeau, The Sinian System.

Family Papers series

Series consists of family papers, including original letters to Henry Dunckley. It also includes letters to William Angus, William H. Dunckley and the diaries of Mary E. Angus.

Charles Spring claims and supporting documentation

Series contains material relating to claims for financial losses as a result of the “Modus Vivendi” and supporting documentation prepared and compiled by Charles Spring. Material relates to claims submitted to the 1896-1897 Bering Sea Claims Commission, the 1913-1915 Pelagic Sealing Commission headed by Louis Arthur Audette, and later efforts at settlement. Material includes instructions for submission of claims, drafts of claims and declarations by Charles Spring, statements from vessel captains, crew, and other involved parties, and accountings of losses and damages. Supporting documentation includes material originally used in the course of business during the 1888-1892 sealing seasons, complied by Spring as evidence. Supporting documentation includes ledgers and journals for sealing business accounts; receipts for expenses, including goods and services, duties and fees, repairs and improvements; vessel registries, licenses, insurance policies, and bills of sale; official vessel log books; transcript of court proceedings against the schooner "Winifred,” and other documents. The series also contains court papers, police charges, and related documents resulting from Charles Spring’s debts, as well as a list of court judgements against him and receipts for payment of monies owed following the receipt of the Bering Sea Claims Commission award in 1898. The series is primarily arranged into files by vessel.

Notebooks

Series consists of notebooks kept by Doyle containing fisheries statistics, figures, and other types of information. Includes notebooks containing information on the operations of the Skeena River Commercial Company, and the Namu, Mill Bay, Kimsquit, Kumeon, Port Essington and Port Edward, Bella Coola, Tallheo canneries. Series also includes notes on the British Columbia Packers Association, 1903-1908, and general journals kept by Doyle, 1905 to 1922, containing information on his business dealings and other cannery-related issues. Glass Slides, Negatives, and Film series

The series consists of photo prints, glass slides, and negatives used by Turnbull in his teaching. The numbers assigned to the various small boxes have been retained. The series also includes a 16 mm film titled Metal Crystals, Microscopic Technique.
