Committees series

Series consists of committee meeting minutes and interdepartmental memoranda, correspondence, meeting reports and annual reports, elections, curriculum revisions, and reading lists.

The records are arranged in eight sub-series: Graduate Committee and Graduate Faculty, Executive Committee, Academic Consultative Committee, Policy and Planning Committee, Honours Committee, Curriculum Committee, Majors Committee, and Senior Committee.

Research Materials series

Series consists of materials collected or created during Chong’s research activities, both in connection with his writing projects and otherwise, and includes written notes, correspondence, and photocopied published materials.

Visual art projects

Series consists of visual art objects (collages, sculptures etc.), preparatory notes and sketches, photographs of visual art objects, and publicity related to Coupland’s art installations. Documents, photographs and objects related to the visual art projects spanning Coupland's career from 1983 to 2012.

Press clippings

Series contains magazines, newspapers, clippings and photocopies of articles about Coupland or his various projects. Clippings were either set aside by Coupland himself, or received from professional press clippings companies. Series includes clippings in various foreign languages including French, Italian Dutch and German.

Editorial and production

Series consists of manuscripts, proofs, photographs, artwork, author contracts, and correspondence relating to books published by Arsenal Pulp Press, mainly between 2001 to 2011.

Photographs

Series consists of photographs and other material maintained by YWCA Metro Vancouver in a separate physical arrangement from its other records. The series features: staff, volunteers, members, and clients participating in YWCA services, programming, and events; headshots and profiles of YWCA personnel; the interiors, exteriors, and amenities of YWCA buildings and facilities; slide presentations of YWCA images; and compilations of photographs, both original and copies, for YWCA Metro Vancouver history research. These photographs were likely taken for a variety of purposes, including publicity, internal administrative use, progress reports, and general documentation of activities.

Records include photographs, negatives, slides, photograph albums, and other graphic materials maintained by the YWCA separately from other formats of material.

Published material

Series consists of articles, newsletters, periodicals, catalogues, and newspaper clippings accumulated by Kogawa. Some of the material relates to Kogawa’s work.

Ephemera

This series contains culturally, historically, and/or politically significant non-commercial publications primarily focused on specific events or topics. Contents includes pamphlets, photographs, calendars, posters, catalogues, forms, and tickets. Events documented include performing arts concerts, Korean Language School (Vancouver) records and photographs, rallies and committee meetings about the Japan Fingerprinting Law, and Korean Society of Vancouver membership forms, among others.

Exhibits, displays, and collecting documents

Series consists primarily of photocopied materials, as well as correspondence, handwritten notes, published materials, and other documents related to Stacey's research and curatorial work for various displays and exhibits, primarily for the Canadian Museum of Civilization. Stacey's own collection of industrial and outdoor clothing is also documented, as it overlapped with his research interests and curation on behalf of museums. Unless otherwise noted, file names and order within files have been respected.

Personal and professional correspondence

Series consists of the portions of Stacey's incoming correspondence that were not kept in his research files; it relates to his personal life as well as his various roles as researcher, consultant, collector, curator, and writer. Wherever files existed, they have been respected in name and in order; otherwise, names have been imposed by the archivist based on document type or sender.

Printed Materials

Series contains flyers, pamphlets and newsletters produced by the W.I.L.P.F. Most of the publications were created by the Vancouver branch, but others were produced in other Canadian cities and also Geneva, Switzerland. The series also contains copies of, and source material for the quarterly newsletter Peace Lines from 1991 to 2002, and then 2005 to 2012.

Experiential Science Project series

This series of books was produced as part of a contract with the Northwest Territories Department of Education, Culture, and Employment. PEP won the contract through an open proposal process. The series includes three student books and three teacher resource books for grades 10, 11, and 12. Work began on the series in 2006 and carried on into 2012. Experts in the field were brought in to review the content of the books, and First Nations Elders were also included in the project.

Series consists of the Experiential Science series documentation and includes book proposals, minutes, drafts, editorial notes and reports, and correspondence. It is arranged in subseries based on the book title.

Publications and Conferences series

Series consists of drafts, finished copies, and publication details of Ward’s articles and books. The series also contains conference papers, listings of attendees, maps of the cities visited, and programs from each event. Dr. Ward added copies of published book reviews in April 2013. File 23-7 was added in 2015.

Tom Thompson series

Materials related to the writing and publication of Inventing Tom Thompson (2004), edited by Dr. Grace. Includes: correspondence, research materials, notes, lecture materials, photographs, and ephemera.

Personal and administrative affairs

Series consists of records related to Coupland’s personal and administrative affairs. This diverse series includes:

  • Personal notes and memos written by Coupland for family, friends and staff
  • Correspondence received by Coupland from family, friends and business associates.
  • Administrative correspondence received by Coupland from agents, publishers and other associates.
  • Receipts, bulls and other financial records
  • Personal and administrative faxes (sent and received primarily in 1993 and 1994).
  • Personal photographs taken by Coupland and his family
  • Miscellaneous ephemera collected by Coupland

This series also contains records relating to Coupland’s administrative affairs.
Administrative records include contracts, receipts, correspondence received from book publishers, scheduling correspondence and insurance papers. Some files in this series are financial records of Coupland’s company, Planet X created between 1992 and 1994.

Mary of Mile 18 - production, reviews, film

This series consists of materials relating to Blades' first book, Mary of Mile 18. Included are a variety of correspondence (some regarding Blades' grievance against May Cutler), letters and test prints related to the 30th anniversary edition of Mary of Mile 18, and illustrations made for the 1981 National Film Board production of the book.

Research and reference resources

The series contains the resources that Vancouver Status of Women (VSW) collected to support its own research projects and the needs of its visitors. Additionally, it includes VSW briefs, press releases, and reports that were inter-filed with research and reference resources. Reference resources were gathered from a wide variety of local, provincial, national, and international sources from the 1970s to 2008. Sources from which resources originate include the National Action Committee for the Status of Women, the Canadian Advisory Council on the Status of Women, local women centers, and other organizations committed to anti-oppression work. Subjects that are addressed frequently in these resources include the following: childcare, gender discrimination in the public education system, community services for women, pensions for women, inadequate unemployment and welfare rates, pornography, prison, sex work, the anti-choice movement, pay equity, violence against women, corporate globalization, and anti-racism.

Subject files in the series were originally arranged in distinct, alphabetized sets spanning two accruals. This order has been maintained physically and intellectually. The physical order in which all other records were received has been maintained as well; original order has been re-constituted intellectually. Record types represented in the series include the following: subject files containing newspaper and magazine clippings, correspondence, and press releases and briefs from other organizations; VSW briefs, press releases, and reports; print copies of academic journals; books; magazines; reports, publications, and grey literature from other organizations; a “Women’s Kit” featuring educational aids that counter sexist stereotypes; and cassette tapes bearing audio recordings in honour of International Women’s Day.

Authorship

Series contains material related to a draft autobiography and to several planned but never completed biographies. Correspondence includes communications with publishers and discussions with numerous writers regarding the content of their writings and source material.
A notepad, handwritten in the 2000’s by Dosanjh, provides a draft of an unpublished autobiography. Proposed titles include, “My Experiments with Exile,” and “Crisis of Conscience.” Communications with publishers regarding the autobiography are included.
Material related to several unpublished biographies, form bulk of the series. Correspondence with two authors, Lisa Crawford and Shari Graydon, are extensive. The latter provided Donsanjh with numerous drafts, outlines, timelines, and questionnaires, to gather source material and feedback. The drafts contain many of Dosnajh’s personal corrections and revisions.
Also included in the series are source materials in the form of historical newspaper clippings and early advocacy writings related to the life of Dosanjh.

Miscellaneous Items series

Series consists of reports, report cards, examinations, correspondence, newspaper clippings, two scrapbooks (with photographs) documenting travel by Scott and his friends in 1948, awards and honours bestowed on Scott, tributes and obituaries regarding his colleagues, and a speech about Scott's early education, undergraduate research and activities, and his appointments at UBC.

Miscellaneous series

The series consists of manuscripts, notes, newspaper and magazine clippings, correspondence, and other materials relating to McWhirter's writing, teaching, and other activities.

Works series

Series consists of documentation of Smedley’s sculptures and other artistic creations and includes written and typed notes and manuscripts, drawings and sketches, photographs, and various digital media. The series is primarily organized into sub-series: Notes and Research Materials, Rowingbridge, Descartes’ Clown, Magneto, Dissections, Piero della Francesca, Cloud of Numbers, Other Works, and Oversized Materials.

The sub-series are based primarily on Smedley’s works, except where the materials refer to more than one work or are more general. Within each subseries, the materials are arranged in chronological order.

Committees series

Series consists of records which document committees within the Faculty of Commerce / Sauder School of Business and includes minutes, reports, and correspondence. It is organized alphabetically by file title. It includes one sub-series for the Teaching Development Committee.

Programmes series

Series consists of records documenting academic and research programmes instituted by the Faculty of Commerce / Sauder School of Business and includes reports, correspondence, course curricula, and published materials. It is arranged alphabetically by file title.

Basketball series

The Basketball Series consists of media guides, statistics, research materials, and yearbooks. Also included is a scrapbook for the 1991-92 season and newspaper clippings. The Media and Promotions Series contains basketball programs and other publications on UBC basketball statistics

Correspondence and reviews related to publications

Series consists primarily of correspondence and reviews relating to Potrebenko's published works. Various publications, reports, and proceedings of conferences that used her work are also included. This series also contains an essay written by university student Nicola Vulpe on Potrebenko's book "Sometimes They Sang" (1986), and a contract between Potrebenko and Lazara Press regarding a work entitled "Running Uptown Downtown."

Photography

Series contains photographs documenting various aspects of the marine industry and culture on the western and southern coasts of North America and the Asian Pacific coast primarily; there are some photographs taken in the Netherlands and Brazil.

Subjects depicted in the photographs include exteriors and interiors of numerous types of boats and ships, as well as practices, technologies and personalities in the marine trades. Some photographs are of marine engines produced by Cummins, for whom Haig-Brown writes a regular web newsletter called Hotips (alternately, Hottips).

The series also contains several photographs of Alan Haig-Brown's family, including his spouse Anya; his sister, Valerie Haig-Brown, editor and eldest daughter of Roderick Haig-Brown; and his daughter, filmmaker Helen Haig-Brown.

Research Materials series

The folder contains newspaper clippings and research materials, including an all-time varsity football roster researched by Fred Hume and a UBC Hall of fame program, 1994. Also in this series is a VHS by the National Film Board of the Thunderbirds in China, 1974. Hindmarch was inducted into the BC Hockey Hall of Fame in 2012. There is a DVD-R of this event and the plaque he was presented on that occasion.

Personal

This series contains material concerning Hutterli's personal matters and related to his position as a teacher in Switzerland. It contains materials related to Hutterli's emigration and materials related to friends and family.

Professional Associations

Series consists of documents related to Bunce’s involvement with several professional associations, including the Forest History Association of BC, the Association of BC Professional Foresters, and the British Columbia Forestry Association.

UBC Administration series

Series consists of reports, research notes, correspondence, and minutes of meetings about Scott's involvement with the President's Report re: Student Enrollment (1953-1954), the Senate Committee on Courses with Large Enrollments (1954-1955), the Committee to Consider a Division of the Faculty of Arts and Science (1962), the President's Advisory Committee on Campus Enhancement (PACCE) (1998-2012). They were formerly known as the UBC Administrative Committees series.

Other Sports series

Sports found in this series include skiing, gymnastics, wrestling, rowing, sailing, and tennis. Records in this series are made up of correspondence, newspaper clippings, research materials, programs, and results.

Personal series

The series consists of correspondence, invitations, agendas, note cards, memos, telegrams, evaluations, clippings and notes relating to his various professional roles.

Clippings series

The series consists of clippings from newspapers and magazines and includes examples of Chongs’s published fiction and non-fiction writing and reviews of his books.

The Anthology of Social Studies series

This book was an updated version of a 1999 publication entitled Canadian Anthology of Social Studies: Issues and Strategies for Teachers. This book was widely used across Canada in teacher education courses. The updated versions were PEP’s idea to maintain the book’s status and relevance in the market and to better compete against newer rival books. The first updated version completely replaced the original anthology. The title was changed slightly to The Anthology of Social Studies, and split the book into two volumes. The first volume focuses on elementary teachers, while volume 2 focuses on secondary teachers. Both volumes were published in 2008. PEP has since updated Volume 1 of the anthology, releasing it with the Updated Edition in 2013. As of 2013, Volume 2 had not been updated. Series consists of correspondence, drafts, editorial notes, and reviews.

Faculty/Programme Reviews series

Series consists of records documenting internal and external reviews of the Faculty of Commerce / Sauder School of Business and its programmes and includes reports and correspondence. It is arranged in chronological order.

UBC Okanagan series

Series consists of records that document the establishment of UBC Okanagan and its Faculty of Management and the tenure of Sauder Dean Daniel Muzyka as Acting Dean of the UBC-O Faculty of Management and includes correspondence, reports, minutes, and published materials. It is arranged in chronological order.

Correspondence

Series consists of email and traditional correspondence between Blanche Howard and Carol Shields, related correspondence, and ephemera from 1974-2006, and general correspondence, related clippings, and ephemera from 1972-2012.

Subject files

Series consists of subject files pertaining to Japanese Canadian history, the Japanese Canadian Redress campaign, multiculturalism and human rights, as well as organizations, task groups, and campaigns in which Kogawa was involved.

Works by other people

Series consists of writings by other writers. These are often works that Kogawa has been asked to comment on. More works by writers other than Kogawa may be found in the Correspondence series.

Lazara Press business records

Series contains textual records related to the administrative component of Lazara Press, mainly records related to its day to day business operations. Records include correspondence, financial information, notes, book rates, advertising, layouts, royalty information, tax information, labels, notes, book listings, loan agreements, orders and invoices, and a directory of bookstores and other companies Lazara Press conducted business with.

Rugby series

Records found in this series include newspaper clippings, hand-drawn rugby plans, rugby crests [textiles], press guides, ruby programs, team rosters from 1970-74, and other rugby publications.
