File contains correspondence relating to the Act to Incorporate the Canadian Loan Company, including two letters about typos in the Act, as well as minutes of a meeting to elect a chairman and otherwise organize the company. Notable correspondents include William Badgley and Stewart Derbishire.

Correspondence

Series consists of 10 letters written by Hughes to various correspondents, including Frederic Stephens, William Holman Hunt, Henry Mogford, and Ellis Wells. Series also includes a DVD of transcriptions of all known extant Arthur Hughes letters in both private and public collections made by Leonard Roberts.

Collection consists of historical material regarding the Pre-Raphaelite artist and illustrator Arthur Hughes collected by Leonard Roberts and Maj. Greville Chester. The collection includes a large body of correspondence from Arthur Hughes to Susan Lushington, a variety of letters to other correspondents, 9 photographs of Hughes and his wife and daughters, examples of Hughes' illustrations and research materials such as family notes and reminiscences and copied articles.

Series consists of records related to Manson's personal life.

This series has been arranged into seven subseries: Manson's education, his involvement with the Presbyterian Church, his social life, agendas and planners, notes regarding speeches he gave, his estate, and his family.

Education

Subseries consists of records related to Manson's education. These records are predominantly related to his time at the University of Toronto, where he belonged to University College, although a small number of records from his time at Osgoode Hall Law School, Niagara Falls Collegiate Institute, and public school can also be found in this subseries.

The records in this subseries include diplomas and certificates, examination grades, examination papers, pamphlets, student newspapers and newsletters, invitations and programmes from university events, class reunions and alumni events, lecture notes, and textbooks.

From Scutari Barracks. Scolds her sister for publishing one of her letters. Acknowledges receipt of some items she had asked for, including wormwood to repel fleas. Much religious activity around the hospital - services, scripture readings. Patients more sick than wounded. Encountered someone who gave her news of Canadian friends. Asks for stationery, pens and pencils, biscuits, etc . Mentions rats.

Alexander Manson fonds

The fonds consists of records related to British Columbia politician and judge Alexander Malcolm Manson's life. The records in this fonds encompass all aspects of Manson's life and were produced both through his career and in his personal life. Notably, the fonds contains extensive records from Manson's political career, his judicial career, and the investments and trusts he managed. Many areas of Manson's life overlapped considerably, including overlapping careers, and records related to one area of his life may be found among records related to another area.

The contents of this fonds consist predominantly of correspondence, including carbon copies of correspondence sent by Manson. This correspondence pertains both to Manson's career as well as to various parts of his personal life and has been arranged according to the file names used by Manson wherever possible; correspondence that has not otherwise been sorted by Manson has been sorted as "general correspondence," a designation which also includes personal correspondence. Other types of records in this fonds include meeting minutes, court proceedings, financial statements, newspaper clippings, governmental reports, shareholder reports, certificates, invitations and event programmes, and photographs.

The fonds has been arranged into eight series: legal career; political career; judicial career; finances; personal life; Ancient Free and Accepted Masons; general correspondence; and photographs, scrapbooks, and ephemera.

Civilian orderlies have arrived in their uniforms designed by Prince Albert who “since he has the vocation for being a tailor so strongly developed” should “set up a shop in Regents St. and let the army alone”. New troops passing through. News of friends she had seen or heard of. Had been ill and might have been sent home, but recovered. Not sure that women nurses is a good idea. Staff not well organized.
