Okanagan North and Okanagan-Shushwap

Contains correspondence related to candidacy selection and controversy in the Okanagan-Shushwap region, largely centered around the candidacy of Lyle MacWilliam, who ultimately won the Okanagan-Shushwap electoral district in the 1988 federal election. File created by Elaine Bernard, Provincial President.

By-elections

Consists primarily of budgetary and financial documents related to the Cariboo and Oak Bay-Gordon Head by-elections of 1989. File created by Lin Rubin, Director of Administration.

Okanagan Boundary

Following the 1996 provincial election, a judicial recount was required in the Okanagan-Boundary electoral district, as the margin of victory between the first candidate (Liberal candidate Bill Barisoff) and the second candidate (NDP candidate Bill Barlee) was only 33 votes, less than 1/500 of the total ballots considered and therefore automatically recounted under the 1995 Election Act. Though Barisoff ultimately remained the duly elected candidate for Okanagan-Boundary, the recount, which concluded on June 21, 1996, narrowed the difference to 27 votes. The decision was not appealed.

This file includes legal correspondence and copies of court documents relating to the judicial recount, and related materials.

Anti-Dosanjh racism

Includes media clippings and internal party correspondence concerning the polarized reactions to attorney-general Ujjal Dosanjh's win at the NDP Leadership Convention held after Glen Clark's resignation in 1999.
