Activism collections

In addition to being involved in many political and social justice movements, Adams also avidly collected items related to those causes. This series contains three subseries: the leftist literature collection; the poster collection; and the button collection.

This series contains newspapers; magazines; newsletters, bulletins, and pamphlets; brochures; booklets; books; posters; and buttons.

Small Posters and Banners

The file contains smaller posters, mostly sized 30 cm x 40 cm. Items included in this file are 7 small cloth banners, a Buster's Patrol Parking plate, a copy of the October 1976 Rolling Stone paper, and 1 wooden sign: "Philosophy."

This fonds consists of records related to Darryl Adams' activities as a political and social justice activist as well as his personal life. The fonds consists of three series: personal life and administrative records; activism involvement series; and activism collections series.

Records relating to the first series, Adams' personal life and administrative files include: personal correspondence received by Adams; photographs collected, taken of or by Adams'; school records and club memberships memorabilia; news clippings and other articles; and work related records such as research materials and correspondence.

Records relating to the second series, the activism involvement series, include material created or used by groups that Adams was involved in such as the Vancouver American Exiles Association (VAEA), as well as the Galindo Madrid Case of the 1970s. These records include meeting minutes; correspondence; conference, seminar, and workshop materials; materials by or about other communist, socialist, or leftist organizations; papers, articles, speeches, critiques, letters, and reports on related topics; ephemera and publications, such as newsletters, journals, and clippings; and sound recordings such as interviews Adams' gave on behalf of VAEA.

The last series consists of three major collections that Adams obtained over his lifetime. The first collection is the lefty literature collection that consists of newspapers, magazines, periodicals, booklets and bulletins, and other publications related to leftist themes. The second collection is a poster collection and the last collection is a button collection.

Buttons - Part 1 of 3

File contains buttons and pins generally related to the following themes: Communist China and Chairman Mao; Anti-Racism, Black Panther, and Black Liberation Movements; Latin America Anti-War; the Vietnam War; Vancouver and British Columbia; Conservation and the Environment; and Pop Culture.

The file also contains buttons pinned onto 4 felt mats, 3 of which are University banners: Cornell, Columbia, and Michigan.

Medium Posters

The file contains numerous posters mostly sized 50 cm x 60 cm, and 1 painting of Elfin Lake at Diamond Head.

Poster collection

The subseries contains various prints related to Adams' interest in political and social justice movements. The publications include posters, pamphlets, flyers, newsletters, banners, signs, brochures, and magazine pages. These prints relate to the political landscape in Vancouver in the 1960s and 1970s; Vancouver benefits, fundraisers, and community events; anti-Vietnam War activism; draft resistance and amnesty movements in Canada and the United States, Anti-Nazi publications; women, refugee, and minority rights; the Latin American political landscape; and Marxist-Leninist publications. Also included are some musical band posters, protest signage, and replica drawings and prints.

Button collection

The subseries contains buttons, pins, and other small objects that Adams collected related to numerous political and social justice movements he was interested in. Themes that the buttons and pins generally relate to include: Vancouver and British Columbia; Pop Culture; Conservation and the Environment; Communist China and Chairman Mao; Women and Minority Rights; Anti-Racism, Black Panther, and Black Liberation Movements; Workers' Rights; Latin America Anti-War and Resistance; Anti-War and Nuclear Power; the Vietnam War; American and Canadian Politics; Miscellaneous Activist Groups; and Miscellaneous buttons.

Also included are badges from Adams' time as a boy scout, ribbons from his high school years, buttons pinned onto felt mats, 4 buckles, 8 coins, and 1 key.
