Fonds consists of both office and personal records that span much of Smith's long career with the U.B.C. Library, and includes correspondence, reports, minutes, notes, course materials, publications, and newspaper clippings. The records are arranged in the following series: Reference Correspondence, Subject Files Personal and Office (Campus and Off-Campus), Subject Files Library, Miscellaneous Reference Subject Files, Canadian Library Association, and Library Education.

The fonds consists of material relating to the foundation and early development of the Department of Fine Arts and other university-related committees and activities in which Binning participated, including the Fine Arts Committee, the Festival of Contemporary Arts, and the development of Nitobe Gardens. Fonds consists of correspondence, clippings, speeches, minutes, financial records and subject files created by the Chancellor's Office in the process of carrying out of its administrative and ceremonial functions as well as in the Chancellor's role as a member of the Senate. In addition, the fonds includes personal papers created by John M. Buchanan, Allan M. McGavin and Nathan T. Nemetz while holding the position of Chancellor.

Fonds contains three series: Archaeology, German and Personal. Within each series, the material has been organized into subseries such as correspondence, subject files, manuscripts, papers and reports.

The fonds consists of Cyril Belshaw's personal and professional papers. The professional records chronicle both his involvement in numerous local, national, and international organizations (including the Academic Board for Higher Education in British Columbia, the Regional Training Centre for United Nations Fellows, the Social Science Research Council of Canada, the Pacific Sciences Association, UNESCO, and the Canadian Sociology and Anthropology Association), and his teaching and administrative activities at UBC. The records also include his original research material and data into various groups in the South Pacific, and other topics in anthropology. More personal records related to his education and family. Also included are materials about the disappearance and subsequent inquiry into the death of Betty Joy Belshaw. The materials include meeting minutes, course materials, publications, manuscripts, research journals, personal diaries and agendas, financial statements, press clippings, photographs, maps and audio-visual materials.

The fonds consists of correspondence from 1929 to 1990; biographical data/information from 1921 to 1991; literary works from 1938 to 1984; photographs from 1898 to 1984; interviews and talks/speeches given from 1942 to 1984; newspaper clippings from 1920 to 1990; newsletters and theatre souvenirs from 1922 to 1987.

Most of the material was created and collected by Sedgewick himself and a small amount was collected by friends including Robert apRoberts after Sedgewick's death.

Fonds consists almost entirely of materials created or acquired by Harry Adaskin throughout his life and career. It includes the manuscripts for his autobiographies, correspondence, scripts for radio broadcasts and lectures, newspaper clippings, and concert programmes, photographs, films, and audio recordings. Also included are annotated copies of Adaskin's two autobiographies: A Fiddler's World (published in 1977), and A Fiddler's Choice (1982). Some outside correspondence addressed to his wife Frances after his death is also included.
