Established in 1970, the Inter-Institutional Policy Simulator represented a joint project by four levels of government and the University of British Columbia to construct interactive computer models of the Vancouver urban region. The project, housed at UBC in the Resource Science Centre, was designed to assess the impact of potential changes in a simulated environment. Initially intended to continue for five years, funding problems and internal disagreements amongst the participants put the project behind schedule, and the Federal Ministry of State withdrew its support in 1974. Although the model was never employed as envisioned, the remaining partners agreed to complete the documentation of the user and programming manuals for each model and system.

The fonds consists of alphabetically arranged subject files from the IIPS Office. Other material includes reports and publications growing out of the project.
