Biographical history
Born and educated in Ontario, John F. McCreary received his medical training at the University of Toronto. Between 1935 and 1939, he was associated with the Toronto General Hospital and the Hospital for Sick Children. During World War II, McCreary served as a nutritional consultant with the Royal Canadian Air Force and was decorated by the Dutch government for his service in examining children in occupied areas and concentration camps. He became head of the Department of Paediatrics at the University of British Columbia in 1951. He served in this capacity until 1972 when he became Coordinator of Health Services, a post he held until his retirement in 1975.

The fonds consists of correspondence and other materials which document McCreary's personal and professional life and some of the organizations with which he was associated.
