Biographical history
John Pine graduated from Columbia University in 1877. From 1879 he practiced law in New York City and was a Trustee of Columbia University for 32 years from 1890. Pine also served as secretary of the Board of Trustees, chairman of the Committee on Character as appointed by the Supreme Court (1908-1909) and was involved in numerous other organizations and clubs. Pine was also a founder and editor from 1897 of the Columbia University Quarterly.

Scope and content
The fonds consists of an unpublished original manuscript (including 80 photographs) of a train trip from New York to Los Angeles, Vancouver, Winnipeg and then back to New York via St. Paul, Minnesota (1907). Also included is an unpublished typewritten manuscript on three weeks in Glacier Park, Montana (1919).
