The Congregation of Missionary Oblates was established in 1826. The first Oblate missionaries came to British Columbia in 1858 after spending eleven years in Oregon. By establishing missions throughout British Columbia, the Oblates laid the foundation for the growth of the Roman Catholic Church in the province.
