Biographical history
The United Transportation Union, Local 422, represents non- operating running trades in the Vancouver area. Prior to the United Transportation Union, the non-operating train staff were represented by the Order of Railway Conductors, Switchmen's Union of North America, the Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen (BRT) and the Brotherhood of Locomotive Firemen and Enginemen (BLFE). The BRT was part of the merger in 1969 and the BLFE joined with the UTU in 1976.

Scope and content
The fonds consists of handwritten notes, printed material and subject files made or created in the course of practial activities by the UTU, Local 422. In addition, the fonds consists of the records of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Firemen and Enginemen (.27 m, 1942-1968), the Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen (5.25 m, 1919-1969), the Vancouver Joint Council of Railway Unions (.55 m, 1971-1984), and the Vancouver Rail Task Force, (1 m, mainly 1977-1982).
