Biographical history
Gideon Rosenbluth, BSc (London), BA (Toronto), Ph.D. (Columbia), was appointed professor of economics at UBC in 1962 in the field of applied economics. His previous position was with Queenʹs University in Kingston, Ontario. His previous jobs included the Wartime Prices and Trade Board and the National Bureau of Economic Research in New York. During his career, Rosenbluth has been president of the Canadian Economics Association and editor of the Canadian Journal of Economics. He has also been a member and chair of numerous committees at various levels of the academic world: on campus, with the Canadian Association of University Teachers (CAUT), and with the Canada Council. He was the president of the CAUT in 1966‐1967 and served on the executive and a fair number of standing and ad hoc committees. In addition, for several years, he chaired the Salaries Committee of the CAUT. In 1974 Rosenbluth was elected to the Board of Governors of the University of British Columbia. Rosenbluth was mandatorily retired from UBC in 1986, although he remained on campus while fighting the issue in the courts.
