In 1979 Greenpeace Canada became part of the worldwide organization know as Greenpeace international, to which all national Greenpeace groups belong. With offices in Vancouver, Victoria, Calgary, Edmonton, Winnipeg, Ottawa, Toronto and Montreal, Greenpeace Canada has a national presence which is uses to raise funds in order to support programming.
The functions of Greenpeace Canada are divided into five categories: campaigns, education, democratic development, fundraising, and administration. Between 1980 and 1986 Greenpeace Canada operated campaigns and programming in the following areas: acid raid, uranium, disarmament, toxics, whales, and wildlife.
Though Greenpeace Canada is responsible for national and local programs across Canada, as a member of the larger international organization Greenpeace Canada supports and participates heavily in international campaigns organized by Greenpeace International.
