History

Ronald Albert Hagler was born in Kitchener, Ontario. He obtained his BA (1955) from the University of Ottawa and continued with post-graduate education at the University of Michigan, where he earned his MLS (1957) and Ph.D. (1961). In 1961, Hagler joined UBC’s new School of Librarianship headed by Samuel Rothstein and became one of the founding faculty members of the Library school. He taught at the University of British Columbia in the School of Library, Archival and Information Studies as an instructor and then assistant and later full professor of library science from 1961 to 1999, when he retired.
